My son was invited to a birthday party and the invite says "no gifts please". Part of me wants to respect the parents' wishes but on the other hand I dont want my son to be the only child that doesnt take a gift and they brought a gift to my child's party....your thoughts?

I work with several lovely ladies on a daily basis. Is it wrong for me (as a guy) to say: "You look very nice today", "I noticed that you had your hair done and it looks very nice", "The lotion that your are using smells pretty", "Is that a new dress? Good choice", "That blouse makes you look very pretty" etc. I am in no way attracted to these ladies (happily married) but I do play a significant part in keeping people upbeat and happy. I care about these ladies as if they were my sisters or friends. Am I going beyond what is considered acceptable?

Bus drivers seem to be the grumpiest, most unhelpful and sour individuals around these days. Maybe it's the job, but that's no excuse in my opinion.

Today however I got into an argument with one of them-over the name of the bus stop of all things!

Anyway, as I got off he made some rude remark, so as the door s closed I turned round and flashed a 'v' sign at him.
I was walking away, but the bus stopped and the driver got out-shouting he was going to 'knock my block off' etc so I marched up to him and eyeballed him. lots of angry shouting and finger pointing in both directions ensued eventually leading to him backing off and getting back into his bus.

I don't think a bus driver should behave like this and I'm enclined to report him-on the other hand, honour was satisfied as far as I'm concerned, and I don't want to put a guy out of his livelihood.

I found some nasty things written online that one of my coworkers wrote about another. I thought they were friends, but it seems like one of them is really jealous of the other - in her online blog, she made fun of her and described different things she's trying to get her fired. I personally really dislike this girl who is posting the stuff on her blog and I thought she was one of the worst people I have ever met since day 1. I also actually really like the other girl and I don't want to see her possibly lose her job because of this stupid person. Should I show her the blog? It has other stuff in it too that will probably hurt her feelings a lot and I don't want to do that.

I will never talk to them again. I have said I 've got to go or see ya later but never have I just hung up. By doing so it signals that you have absolutley no value of that person. And it has happened to me a few times. My policy- never talk to them again.

I was at work yesterday, and I overheard my boss telling my coworker about an error I made. She was doing so in a rude manner, not really trying to find a solution, more so gossiping. I was so hurt and when I saw her face to face did not even want ot make eye contact with her. I think this is so unprofessional......what should I do or say. I don't think they know I heard. How do i deal at work knowing that anything I may do wrong or not up to her standards will be spread around the office rather than brought to my attention??

There is a girl in the office who can be just terrible to stand next to because of her B.O., so the people in my office are complaining to me about it, and now they've started spraying perfume all over the place. I'm allergic to most perfumes and so I can't get a full days work in because I have to keep going home because of the toxicity of the office. Any advice on how to confront someone nicely about their personal hygiene so that everyone can be considerate of each other's nostrils?

its Joes bday today and he invited his mates out tonight to celebrate including me and my boyfriend.

anyways we got to the pub @8pm and joe was there with a few mates already. we bought Joe a drink, and sat on the next door table as there was no room. Joe and his mates didnt try to make us feel welcome.

then we got a text from the people who were late saying their taxi had only just turned up.

anyways the taxi seemed to take ages and at 8:20 joe and his mates just got up and quickly walked out of the bar without saying a thing 2 us. then a minute later i got a call from my friend saying -
why arent you in the bar we are in we thought u was with Joe and his mates?

so i told her what happened.
she said we come here n hurry up.

so i said -
no coz Joe and his mates were rude and never said anything to us after we gave him his bday drink.

but now everyone is annoyed with us for going home but we dont think we are in the wrong with this.

If not, what do they do that ticks you off? And do you think they do it intentionally?

I don't have any parents-in-law at the moment (unless you count my sister's husband's parents...but I don't think they're exactly parents-in-law), so I am curious about this.

since we picked him up .... do you think anything "fishy" was going on? That is the only part of his body he seems concerned with licking. He does not appear to be in pain.

The cat is also unusually quiet and unresponsive compared to before we took him there for the week while on vacation... I'd hate to think they did something, but what other explanation is there?

This is a really awkward question/situation - is it worth asking my in-laws? My husband noticed too.... If he doesn't want to ask, should I? I mean, you should see the way this cat is going to town on himself!

If yes, what sort of gift is appropriate for a son and daughter-in-law to give? I don't want to give alcohol as that's what we gave him for his birthday.

Last may, my mum went in to hospital for a routine op, unfortunately a mistake was made during the operation. She ended up ICU and had to stay in hospital for 2 mths. She had to go back in february to finally fix the problem. Since then she has been very weak and aneamic , but slowly but surely she is getting her strength back.

My aunt and cousins in the U.S, keep on pressurizing her into letting them come over to visit and it starting to cause a rift in the family.

We live a flat apartment and have 3 rooms and normally when someone comes over we usually give them mum's room and squash up together. But because of my mum's condition, she must be comfortable and needs the whole bed to do that.

My mum is also that kind of person, who doesn't rest when someone comes over, the house has to be spotless and that person must have the best of everything e.g. food + enterainment. There's no way that she would let any visitor sleep on the floor...........

If I blame Americans, I have a certain real-life experience that made me feel that way about them. But the Americans on this board don't seem to get that. Instead of intelligently addressing my concern and putting themselves in my shoes for a second & then clarifying my concerns, they all think like "Hey...you blame America? You are an A**h***! get out of my country!"

I thought you Americans were above that. Don't you know that reacting like that is very childish? A mature person should politely address the questioner's concern and give him an intelligent solution.

I was wondering if people tip better b/c of an attractive appearance. For example, say you frequent a restaurant on a weekly basis. Say the first week you receive excellent service, but your server is not really attractive to you. Then the second week, you receive the same quality of service, but by a very attractive waitress. Are you more likely to tip the attractive server more, then though the service was the same.

Also, if you do tip the more attractive server; what qualities in their appearance made you do so.

My friend gave me a bag of clothes that she said were too small for her. I took them. Over the trime, I wore some and gave some away. Three years later, she says that she only lent me the clothes and wants them back. I am offended by this turn of events and by her representing the passing on of second hand clothes which I did not ask for or need as a loan.
I have returned all of the clothes. But I should raise the issue with her or just leave it alone?
