I was wondering if people tip better b/c of an attractive appearance. For example, say you frequent a restaurant on a weekly basis. Say the first week you receive excellent service, but your server is not really attractive to you. Then the second week, you receive the same quality of service, but by a very attractive waitress. Are you more likely to tip the attractive server more, then though the service was the same.

Also, if you do tip the more attractive server; what qualities in their appearance made you do so.

I tip based on the service I get not on how attractive the person is. A server can be completely incompetent and rude and be very attractive but that doesn't mean they deserve a large tip. Tipping on looks is pretty shallow. I think the quality of service is much more important. The only way that appearance would affect how much I tip is if the person is very dirty or does not look appropriate for work- if that made me or other people I was with uncomfortable the tip might be less.

The very word tips means < To Insure Prompt Service> thats what it is for. And this is to the guy who said that a server should never make more than the customer they serve, come out of the dark ages, serving is a hard stressful job and some of them make very good money sorry, If you feel that way dont go out eat at micky d;s

I don't. I usually tip about 30 percent regardless. I think servers and bartenders have to deal with some pretty mean/annoying/angry people. However, if the service is horrible then I usually only tip 20 percent. And I only tip that much because some states have the tip credit deal. Otherwise, apperance has nothing to do with it unless they are unclean looking.

it will all depend on the individual and how eductaed they are in/about the service industry. I always tip on service, of course i would love to have an attractive server take care of me...but we all know that will not always be the case...

I believe a person who would tipp an attractive server more would be someone who would want something more out of the server....maybe a relationship or just a plain ole fashing 1 night stand..

When my husband and I leave a tip, we base it on the service and not the appearance of the wait staff. Of course, that is not to say that if the individual looked as if they hadn't bathed in a while and their appearance was basically unkept that we wouldn't leave without tipping. It really has nothing to do with beauty. Just a clean appearance and friendly demeanor. Even if the food is bad and the wait staff friendly, we will still leave a tip.

I really think that attractiveness makes a difference. I used to tip my own daughter when she was a waitress at a swanky place......and really enjoy it.
Personally though, a server should never recieve an hourly income higher that the customer's he or she serves.

Plenty of servers don't get enough. many more get obscene incomes. I try to base my tips on quality of service, lack of brown nosing, and percieved need

I used to be a waiteress, and it seems like when guys came in that were attracted to me, they gave me a WAY better tip than other people who just came in to eat. They also were much nicer and much more lenient when it came to mistakes. My answer - appearance, in some circumstances, does make the difference between a large tip and a quarter.

If I don't get my meal in a timely fashion or the service is lousy, I don't care how hot the waitress is, she is getting the absolute minimum tip from me. I am there to eat, not to look at waitresses strip. Sorry ;)
