Politics of it all aside ...

Britain being the class society it is, and the House of Lords being the historical institution it is that was only ever to be entered if peerage was aqcuired through birthright.
Should commoners be allowed to sit in the House of Lords ... and if so should it be renamed to something different?
Or should commoners never be allowed to sit in the House of Lords and be gratefull that their acquired title will lead to other opportunities that go with the acquisition of a title?
Answers on an oversized postcard please :-)

Not wanting to boast, but I feel my postman may have taken a liking to me. I gave him an Xmas card (just to show appreciation of his good work and just general friendliness) and since then, he wants to know if I work night's and now, today, he mentioned how 'odd' my maisonette looked and wanted to know if there's an upstairs to it! I don't want to be petty and ring Royal Mail to complain about him, but what should I do? I'm a very friendly, smiley person and I wonder if I've come over as being such.

I would describe my friend as quite forthright. The other night, she had left a message on my mobile to say she had won a pair of tickets (just something simple, nothing flash) and asked me if I'd be interested. The tickets didn't have an expiry date on them, so we could have gone any time. She left a message saying, "If I don't hear from you by 9.30pm tonight, I'll assume you don't want to go". I don't like being 'timed' in this manner and I didn't get her message until the next morning, as I turn my phone off as soon as I leave work. I have arranged plenty of nights out together and have never 'forced' her to decide when or if she'd like to go at all. I respected her to get back to me when she was ready. What do you think? I've also been a victim of crime, which she knows about.

I recently visited my favourite eating establishment and to my dismay they had run out of my preffered caviar! I summoned my limousine and have vowed never to return. Furthermore I did not tip the maitre'd lavishly as I normally would (as you can understand I'm sure). Would you be equally incensed at such an affront?

I thought it was just an empty shopping cart, so when I took it this black lady came up to me yelling. Apparently, it was her cart she just hadn't put any merchandise in it yet. So, ok I just gave it back and said sorry. But as she pushed the cart away she snapped back at me "You better recognize, umm-hmm!"

What exactly does this mean? (I am a non-ebonics speaker)

I have been worked for this company almost five years. For four years ago, my CEO never spoke or even looked at me. Last year when he fired my boss then hired a consultant, and he started to talk highly about me how smart I am. My new boss told my supervisor, and my supervisor told me because we are good friens.

If I meet him down the hall, he always talks and touches my hand briefly very friendly with me. My supervisor told me that the ceo feels like I hate or intimidate him, my sup. advised me I should open more with the ceo. I try to be nice, if I see him, I start talking with him. I even bought him a small gift for this b'day. One day, I walked in the mail room, I saw the ceo and the other manager were in there, I said hi and talked to them and started to get mails, the ceo mentioned his birthday coming up in a couple day but I did not have a chance to give to him. . Anyway, When the other manager left I told him I will be back , just me and my CEO in the mail room, he aske

Would it be rude to send the 'announcement' on the day we leave the country?

Also, would it be rude to have a bridal registry for the elopement?

He painted our 5 year old's room Energy Red. (it's pretty close to the color of a tomato, very bright red, orangish tint.) My eyes hurt to go in that room, but my son loves it. I cringe when I look at it. I cannot see staring at that red room for even 1 year! I know he worked hard on it but .....

We both took the same ride to the airport from college together so we could split the cost and it would be cheaper but she didn't have any cash and said she would pay me back when we got back to school. She mentioned it at school but hasn't since and we have been back for a month now. Thanks
