If the invitation was proffered weeks in advance, I suppose it would be impolite.

If it was a spontaneous invitation, I'd agree to join them but say I've already eaten, but I'd be glad to sit with you while you eat.

But my manners are so bad, I'd probably ask my host for a *****-bag "for later."

No, that's not impolite, it's not your fault they invited you so late! However I would simply say it up front, tell them you like to come over but that you've already eaten, so they know not to set the plate for you or cook/heat up more food than they have to. If they prefer you to come just a little later so they've finished their meal as well, they can say so.

I was taught that you should always try to atleast eat a little something because the person went to the time to prepare and make the meal for you. You can politely let them know that you had eaten and aren't that hungry but would be glad to eat a little plate. The same applies to if they made something you don't like. Take a few bites (I usually take a drink after I put it in my mouth to hide the flavor) and eat the other items on your plate. As long as your courteous in your responses I'm sure the host will understand..

If they are the kind of people that have there feelings hurt easily and you don't wanna hurt them, buy time and tell them you have something planed over the next hour or 2 and if it is that important to them, they may hold off. Then of coarse so your not a liar, go get a shower or something and kill an hour or so. That may give you enough room to have a small portion meal with them and make all well. I have a friend exactly like that and that is exactly what i have done in the past, it worked for me.

Yep, I'd say you should just tell them that you've already eaten when they invite you. They can then decide if they'd like you to just visit without eating, or come over for dinner another time.

Yes, it's impolite. But you can just eat a little bit. Or appologize and tell them that you have already eaten. If it's just a friend they'll understand...

You have to inform them that you have already eaten. They themselves may excuse you from attending or call you anyway in which case they will not be offended if you don't eat. Don't ever go and try to force yourself to eat just a little it will be noticed and they will take it for granted that you did not like the food.

Decline and tell them that you've had dinner and ask for an invitation on another day.

How can you overeat .It may affect your health. But the person before really expects you to eat.Use soft words and just make them understand why you are refusing.
The way you refuse is important.
Be polite and refuse then it won't be impolite to refuse
