Mostly, I do not go near a question that cold be considered controversial, because a lot of people tend to be overly strong in their feelings when it comes to certain things, and I'd rather not face the headache of being in an arguement over something I would personally find trivial.

No, I am not. I am very involved in such discussions -
I love to learn about hidden prejudices that may lurk in people's hearts - they need to be out in the open so that any misunderstandings can be cleared
if there are fewer misunderstandings, fewer people should hate each other.

not necessarily.
if a controversial discussion is going on i try to walk away. if i get noticed and am asked, "what do you think?" i say, "you don't want to know". i give them a way out. they say," yes, we do" then i go off on the subject. then they are all standing there with open mouths thinking to themselves "holy crap! maybe i should have listened when she said we don't want to know".
