Not wanting to boast, but I feel my postman may have taken a liking to me. I gave him an Xmas card (just to show appreciation of his good work and just general friendliness) and since then, he wants to know if I work night's and now, today, he mentioned how 'odd' my maisonette looked and wanted to know if there's an upstairs to it! I don't want to be petty and ring Royal Mail to complain about him, but what should I do? I'm a very friendly, smiley person and I wonder if I've come over as being such.

He likes you.

I've got the same problem with being friendly, and have been accused of flirting when I thought I was just being normally nice.

I'm sure this isn't the first time a guy has taken a liking to you, or "misread a sign." Let him down nice & easy.

Try to look distracted the next couple of times you are getting your mail. For example, have a cell phone conversation going, and just smile, take the mail, and leave. I think if you do this a few times, he'll get the idea that you don't have a romantic interest in him.

The safest option is to stop communicating with him. This will hurt his feelings and probably yours as well. You need to think about how your card was received. Seeing as most people are not nasty stalkers (who get all the headlines so we think they are everywhere), I would not worry about him. Likely the cause of his slightly exaggerated response is that he is a bit lonely.

If you're going to be tactful about it, do not express more attention than you mean to, don't answer questions you don't want to and don't stand and chat to him on your doorstep for 10 minutes every morning if you don't want a friendship to grow.

Post yourself some flowers from interflora, open the note in front of him and pretend to blush and the cheeky and romantic comments inside. 'Oh, what a lovely thing for Sebastian to do, no wonder i'm marrying him next thursday' (on second thoughts, maybe don't say the last bit he might wantt to be invited).

definately nosey. Sounds like he doesnt know how to differentiate between a friendly Christmas card an an "i would like to get to know you better" card. Tell him you appreciate his interest but it would be inappropriate for you to give him more information than a postman needs to have.

He may fancy you, or he may be overly friendly.
As has been said, you can simply not answer the door, or find out what he is thinking and respond according to your interest in him.
After that, ring Royal Mail if you must.

They don't sound like particularly invasive questions, the nights question could just be because you're there to meet him in the morning. The upstairs question may just be that he's generally interested.

But if you're spookd by him, then maybe you should try to appear out when he comes.

He's probably trying to be friendly as not everyone on his route would bother talking to him and it can be a boring job. Maybe try and avoid him for a couple of weeks if it bothers you. Just let him drop off your post and hide... pretend you're not in.

i think he is trying to make small talk but you could put some boundries up by saying things like "yes it has an upstairs but my botfriend and i havent gotten around to finishing it yet."

if you dont have a boyfriend then it's time to dream one up and talk about him a lot.
