Ah yes , a question that oft comes to mind when dealing with "customer service" staff. They are not paid well enough, and have management /corporate leaders w/wee little brains. They think if you work for the customer you lose something. Rather companies like Costco (ingeneral) and Trader Joe's ,PCC markets have apparently told their employees how to act.For instance in some of these places if you are not being served properly-say an undue delay in line due ot a customers problem ahead of you- the c ashiers have a leeway to give you a discount or free item along w apology. If you are looking at items that appeal to you but aren't sure which to get you may end up w a free sample at the discretion of the staff assigned to that area.Returns are handled quickly and w/o judgement. It increases their job satisfaction, feeling able to really provide a valuable service and please many customers, and it satifies the customer and the corporation benefits from loyalty and owrod of mouth reputation. Its a win win situation but few companies can have the intelligence, creativity and foresight to figure it out.

YES! That is assault. I used to work as a cashier as a teenager. And let me tell you this, if anyone did that to me, I would've called security and called 911. My manager trained us really well on how to get the authorities involved if anything like that were to happen. Especially since I was a small female (only 5ft tall and a minor). Also keep in mind that stores have security cameras, so they would've caught you on tape and if you did all that AFTER the cashier looked at your photo ID information and ran your credit card information into the register, they could use that information to track you down and find out who you are.

Definitely wrong. First, you may find yourself arrested or at least being given the bum's rush for the door. Second, it is never right to return one rude treatment with another. Much better to be the bigger person, although you can always get in a zinger: "Thanks for your friendly service."

Finally, it may be that the cashier is having a very bad day. Etiquette certainly allows for intention and life situation - it doesn't excuse bad behavior, but it tells us we should think of others and their situations. Heck, that's what etiquette's all about, right? So be kind in return. You may find the cashier break down and weep (it's happened), make them understand their rudeness, or at the very least make yourself feel better about having taken the high road, not because you didn't know what to say, but because you consciously decided to do the right thing.

i used ot be a cashier for two big compaines and i saw other cashiers beig rude to custumers all the time. i was not rude, i smiled no matter how my day was going cause i always remember that that one smile could make someones day. lol anyway, if they are rude, don' say anything, go directly to the manager of the store and report them. telling the cashier honestly wont do anythig but telling the manager gets them directly repremanded. a cashier is alway supposed to make the custumer #1.thats there job, if they don't they make the store and themselves look bad. if the manager does nothing then try to remember both of their names and call the stores human resources ad/ or the national office.

Yes. Just say that you do not appreciate their rudeness. I mean the person might be have a bad day, or something that someone else said just might have made them angry, just take that into mind.
