Usually when the tone of someone's voice is in a high pitch, you can tell they are being sarcastic. Or, they usually roll their eyes, or act really dull. They don't usually say it in a joking tone, and sometimes it sounds rude, and obvious. If you're not sure, just tell this person that the question you asked was not supposed to be answered with sarcasm.

In my opinion it is very easy to spot a person who is being sarcastic. You do not need to translate English to English. You only see a person' voice and manner as well as his or her body language. Life is short and it is very sad when you see this type of behavior around. I encounter this type of behavior everyday but, I take thing lightly. You and I can not change his or her behavior until this person is willing to change.

Marylin gave a fairly good example of sarcasm. It comes in many forms.
eg: if u ask someone "which way are we facing?
they answer, "I don't know... the sun is setting there, do u think it might be West, Sherlock?"
And a certain tone is characteristic.
If u tell a joke and someone says "Ha ha that was so funny I forgot to laugh!!!"
sarcasm...

Sometimes, you can't. After you know a person better, you can usually tell how to read them, but sometimes it is still hard. You might want to ask "Uuuhhh. Was that a sarcastic remark??" or "Did I hear some sarcasism there?"
