My grandaughter seems to understand a lot but still sounds like she is speaking a foreign language. I understand about 10% of what she says. She is constantly talking and obviously knows what she is saying because when I ask her to repeat she says "exactly" the same thing over and over. Do I need to worry?

I have a 2 year old who loves art. I have looked all over for paint with water books. I have found two in my search in two different places. Does anyone know where I can find these, maybe a place online to order them?

A friend of mine has an 18 month year old. She is a teacher at the preschool I work at. My friend has looked at several preschools - she doesn't want her daughter to come to our preschool - but has found that our preschool offers the best education and she will pay less as she is an employee.

What are the pros and cons of having your daughter at your school with you? Her daughter and her will have much contact during the school day.

I have a delightful 18mth old girl. The only problem is she bites. If I take something from her / stop her doing something, she is likely to bite me. If she is frustrated she is likely to bite me. And sometimes when she appears happy and calm, she may bite. Occassionally, she will bite other children, apparently for no reason.
I know that all children at some stage bite, but it seems that she bites more than most, and has been doing so for over 3 months. It is also strange that she bites me (her father) but not her mother, grandparents etc.
I've tried a lot of things to stop her. I've removed her from the situation, got onto her eye level and told her no biting. I've shouted at her (and then felt very bad). I've ignored it (painful). I remove my arm / hand / finger / neck / cheek when I se her moving in for the bite.
None of the above strategies have worked.
Any ideas?

She moans about having to do too much yet when I offer help she doesn't want it most of the time. I've also noticed that she's spoiling her two older boys a bit too much lately so I wonder if she is feeling guilt for having the latest baby...

my 8.5 month old, has been a great eater. will eat anything. He was eating mashed veggies, meat, wheat bix, oatmeal. Now he will eat 3 or 4 spoons and then spit it out play with it, put his fingers in his mouth. But you give him a banana and he holds it, he will eat it. Do you think he wants to feed himself and just going through a stage. Any advice or help would be great

I'm getting fed up with my parents watching my child when i work graveyard shift (approx. 7 shifts per month). Has anyone used a night day home/care? What were your opinions. (Note: This is only a temporary thing for a year or two until I go back to school for my masters).

dd has been waking up at 6 a.m for the past 3 days. By 9 she is a wreck so I have been putting her down for a nap(she does not take a morning nap anymore). She will sleep for 30 minutes and that is it and then she will not take an afternoon nap. By 6 she is a total wreck. She is driving me crazy. Her normal schedule is wake up 7:30, nap 1-3, bed 7:30. I know it is temporary(I hope) but what the heck is going on. Also, we are in such a rut with food. Like I have stated before she only eats certain things. I introduce new things all of the time and she just refuses. Every morning she eats cheerios, pancakes, banana and yogurt. I am not complaining she doesn't eat enough, it is just always the same thing. Lunch, grilled cheese or mac and cheese or a veggie chicken nugget. Dinner, I struggle because these are her main staples and I want to try other things. Believe me i try with no luck. I know it can take 10-20 times so I keep trying hoping one day she will just take it. She still won't drink milk from a cup. She has her 15 month appt. Thursday so I am sure my pedi. will tell me to get rid of the night bottle and she will eventually take milk out of a cup. I thought so too but we are on day 9 of refusing milk out of a cup...and she loves milk. Any advice would be great. I am sooo tired... Debbie

Hi my son has stopped drinking his toddler formula recently, last week I brought him to MD, he told me he's underweight. I'm just curious what does American kids eat at this age, I'm suspecting it's the food I cook that doesn't have enough calories in there(chinese)

I ran into a stranger as he passed by,
"Oh excuse me please" was my reply.

He s aid, "Please excuse me too;
I wasn't watching for you."

We were very polite, this stranger and I.
We went on our way and we said goodbye.

But at home a different story is told,
How we treat our loved ones, young and old.

Later that day, cooking the evening meal,
My son stood beside me very still.

When I turned, I nearly knocked him down.
"Move out of the way," I said with a frown.

He walked away, his little heart broken.
I didn't realize how harshly I'd spoken.

While I lay awake in bed,
God's still small voice came to me and said,

"While dealing with a stranger,
common courtesy you use,
but the family you love, you seem to abuse.

Go and look on the kitchen floor,
You'll find some flowers there by the door.

Those are the flowers he brought for you.
He picked them himself: pink, yellow and blue.

He stood very quietly not to spoil the surprise,
you never saw the tears that filled his little eyes."

By this time, I felt very small,
And now my tears began to fall.

I quietly went and knelt by his bed;
"Wake up, little one, wake up," I said.

"Are these the flowers you picked for me?"
He smiled, "I found 'em, out by the tree.

I picked 'em because they're pretty like you.
I knew you'd like 'em, especially the blu e."

I said, "Son, I'm very sorry for the way I acted today;
I shouldn't have yelled at you that way."
He said, "Oh, Mom, that's okay.
I love you anyway."

I said, "Son, I love you too,
and I do like the flowers, especially the blue."

FAMILY
Are you aware that if we died to morrow, the company
that we are working for could easily replace us in
a matter of days.
But the family we left behind will feel the loss
for the rest of their lives.

And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more
into work than into our own family,
an unwise investment indeed,
don't you think?
So what is behind the story?

Do you know what the word FAMILY means?
FAMILY = (F)ATHER (A)ND (M)OTHER (I) (L)OVE (Y)OU

I've read and also been told that "NO" should be used rarely because they can become desensitized to it. NO should be used when they are in danger of hurting themselves. When he grabs the cordless phone i should encourage him to play with something else, but find myself saying "NO". I have noticed NO is not having the same effect, and its not taken seriously. I worry about him running out in the street and me yelling NO and it doesn't stop him. How do you keep yourself from reverting to the "NO" being over used?

My son will be 3 in May. He has a temper issue. Anytime something goes a little bit wrong, he throws an absolute fit. Thanks to some advice from here on Yahoo, the biting has almost completely stopped since the punishment became vinegar on his tongue. But when he gets mad he throws things or hits someone (or something) and will continue until he's punished. He isn't potty trained yet, and the worse is when we try to change his diaper or put on his pajamas. He'll get so mad sometimes that he'll scream and hit and kick. The kicking is what really gets me going, I have a hard time controlling my temper when he does it because he's hit us in the face and neck a few times. Usually I have to pin him down, which he hates, but then he just screams and spits and tries to bite.

I have tried everything I can think of. Our usual punishment for acting up is timeout. But once he gets there he hits the wall, or spits some more and screams. It's not working. I don't want to hit him, I feel too bad

My son is three years old and has just been potty trained. I would like to take this opportunity to thank a lot of you guys out there who have time and again helped me out, resolved my problems and always shown support and encouragement. I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Coming back to the issue at hand, although my son is potty-trained, he still needs to wear a diaper whenever he sleeps. He cannot wake up and go to the toilet then. So accidents are happening. Is this part of the process? What should I do now?

My son is over 2 years old, and cannot stop sucking his thumb. He's been doing it since he was an infant, but now I'm scared that this bad habit will damage his teeth.

He seems to need it especially before falling asleep, or when he's tired...does anybody have any good advice to help? Thanks!

I have a baby boy that weights 21.1 pounds at the age of 15 months. He gets really stubborn to eat in the morning, but at night he only eats half of a Gerber 3 food. Just today I had to wean him from the bottle. He is a little guy, but the doctor says that's normal. But I'm not satisfied. Do other parents out there have kids at this age that weight that much? Thank you
