Most people would say (1) your son should be off the bottle, and (2) you probably don't have to sterilize them. My daughter was on the bottle until 16 months, and I sterilized them right up until she used the very last one. It just seemed right, and would've seemed weird not to, after doing it for so long. I was just more comfortable doing it than not. As far as regular bowls, spoons, etc, I never sterilized them, just washed them good. I was taught to sterilize bottles cuz you have the formula sitting in them for a day or two sometimes, and you don't want anything to contaminate it. It's really a personal choice and opinion, totally up to you!

Hi i am breastfeeding my son and have also just started bottle feeding as well. I don't sterilise my bottles anymore. I do make sure the are washed in very hot water and then rinsed in hot water again. I stopped doing this when he was crawling and getting into everything :-)

Isnt 17 months a little old to still be having a bottle? He should be drinking out of a cup by now.

no, if you think about about it you really never need to sterilize the bottles or nipples because the child picks stuff off the floor and eat it or if he has a pacifier if he drops it on the floor normally he will just pick it up again and put in his mouth so why worry with stile stuff anymore

of course you should wash them with hot water and detergent, but forget the sterilizing, at 17 months, he is already putting weird crap in his mouth.

he has already been exposed to bacteria in his foods etc. Regular wash is fine
