my 8.5 month old, has been a great eater. will eat anything. He was eating mashed veggies, meat, wheat bix, oatmeal. Now he will eat 3 or 4 spoons and then spit it out play with it, put his fingers in his mouth. But you give him a banana and he holds it, he will eat it. Do you think he wants to feed himself and just going through a stage. Any advice or help would be great

Your eater is making the transition from being fed to feeding himself. My little guy did the same thing. I found foods he could finger and feed himself. it's a phase he will outgrow.

My children did the same thing, they want to feed themselves. Although it's quite messy give him a spoon and his food, and use ur own spoon also he can feel like he's helping and u can also still have some control over making sure he's eating enough, and not getting tired from feeding himself. Finger foods work good also, in the baby food aisle at ur local store they should have a variety of different boxed, or jars of prepared food. But otherwise just chop the food very small for ur baby, mine always ate whatever we did. Make sure u supervise so he doesn't choke. Good luck!! Hope this helps.

he's wanting to feed himself. encourage him by giving him finger foods to eat. making a mess with their food is how they learn to eat on their own.
