My six month old son rarely shows any sign of activity or interest in the world. I'm not sure if he's just tired or if something's wrong with him. Should I take him to the doctor? Please help, I'm really worried.

My son used to let me brush his teeth when he was only 10 months old without a problem but now that he's older (2yo) he won't let me get near his teeth. He wants to brush his own teeth and won't let me guide him on how to properly brush.. I'm concern because he is not brushing his teeth the right way. What do I need to do? Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My son is 20 months old and attends daycare part time. He is the youngest in his class and for the last few weeks he has had what I would call random bruises (what I thought was typical kid playing bruises) and 2 (in one day) bite marks. I was called this Friday because another child hit him in the head with a toy and hit him so hard that it left imprints of the toy on his head in blood under the skin......when i asked his teacher that afternoon, she said that there were 3 other kids in the class that picked on him all the time, and that they were trying to find another way to discipline these children because time out was not working, now again i didn't realize this was going on ( i was only told that they had a biter, but it was being worked out). Do I take my child out of the daycare immediatly, or do I give them a chance to try a new approach with these children? I want to protect my baby, but I don't wanna rip him out of daycare without considering everything.

My fiance has a three year old. I love her but she has problems with behavier. Her daycare has had alot of problems with her. Her mother calls for advise because she can't control her. She is very bossy, throws bad fits, hits, screams, very defiant and not a very loving child. Her mother is in theropy and he wants to start seeing the child. He (my fiance) is completely blind to the fact that his child lacks structure. I try to talk to him but he gets defensive and says because I don't have children of my own I shouldn't say anything. Maybe a few of you agree with him. I don't have children of my own but I am a certified Child Care Provider.

My son (2 1/2) used to be an angel most of the time, but he seems to have changed almost overnight into one of the worst behaved children I've seen- admitedly not many, which may explain a bit why my wife and I are finding this phase so difficult. When he's good, he's adorable and very intelligent, but it seems as if those moments are becoming rarer and rarer. A good majority of his communication to us is in the form of whining & even the most mundane of tasks which he handled fine before (bedtime/diaper changes) often turn into total meltdowns now. He is waking up 2-3 times a night and will not go back to sleep without one of us in there.

We both are becoming very frustrated and are left wondering-
a) what are some effective discipline stratagies for this? We've tried time out, positive re-enforcment, etc.
b) what are some of the ways you have dealt/are dealing with this phase as parents. We love him so much, but it is sometimes difficult when he is thrashing around like a madman.

hi there, i have an 18month old son and everyone keeps telling me he is very intelligent i just wanted to know how many other 18month olds are doing the things he's doing as i actually think he is very normal and not advanced. here is some of what he is doing anyway:
he can recognise the letters c e h i j m o p s t
he can recognise and count to 5
he can put his own shoes on and do the velcro up
he can put his own pants on
he unstacks the dishwasher and puts the plates bowls and cups away
he doesn't have a day nap anymore
he knows when he has gone poos and when his nappy is wet
he tells me when he is hungry or when he wants to go to bed
he knows over 100 words in english, at least 100 in maori, and about 80 in samoan and has no problem differentiating between the three languages and will happily use and understand either or.
he's been walking since 7months (he didn't crawl), now he walks runs skips and hops on one foot..

We moved into our new place about 3 months ago, so I don't think this is the reason, but about 3 weeks ago she started this new thing. We will do the normal bedtime routine bath, brush hair and teeth and then bed time. She walks to her bed and lies down. Every night about 5 minutes after we lay her down she will get out of bed and kick the door, or sometimes yell MOMMY DADDY or will bring ALL of her toys to the door and play. Even though it is dark in her room! We will put her back in her bed EVERYTIME she does this but sometimes after the 15th or so time(literally) will just ignore her and she will fall asleep at the door. Anyone encounter this before.
Thanks I would greatly appreciate any and all suggestions.

My son will be 3 in July. He is not interested AT ALL in potty training. We have a stand alone potty seat and one that fits on the big potty. He will not even consider the idea of sitting on it without his pants. He screamed like crazy when I tried to put him on.
He has always come into the bathroom with me... he knows that other people go "stinky" and "pee pee" the potty...but he will not tell me when he has pooped in his diaper. He hates it when I change his diaper. He always says, "No, Mommy! No diaper!" Even when he's obviously stinky.
I am waiting for him to be ok with potty training, but my husband now refuses to change his diaper because it's too stinky and he thinks he should be potty training. My grandma is dissapointed that he is the first kid in the family to not be trained by the age of 2. My mother says it will only take a weekend if I do it right.

So... what are your experiences with potty training? Should we force it or let it happen when he's ready?

She is makeing a fuss if you have her do something she don't want to do. Hiting her head on the floor and telling everyone to leave her alone while she throws herself on the floor. or jumps up and down for a little while.

My Son is now ten years old. He has worn doc martin boots since the age of four. He is currently wearing ten eyelet doc martin boots that come above his ankles to low calf level. He has seen a pair of these boots in a local shop that are 18 eyelet high and would practically go up to his knees and in his size. He is constantly on to us to buy them for him. If you were a parent in this position would you allowyour Son to have these boots.

My son has been fighting me at nap time. I wouldn't have a problem except when I put him back in bed, he kicks off the blanket while letting out an evil laugh. My mother said to give him a smack on the bum, but I really don't like that. I am guilty of trying it, and it worked that day, but the next day it was the same fight. I don't want him becoming an aggressive child and I really don't like spanking him anyways. He is very resistant to punishment, positive, or negative reinforcement. He has such an easy going personality. If I put him in the corner for a time out, he sings or looks at his fingers. Any answers. I was hopeing there are some pediatritions out there or someone with similar experiences.

Friday, I drove up to pick up my son from daycare and my provider was sitting out on her porch reading a book *eek* - Apparently she has housekeepers clean her house each Friday, and the 2 hispanic women were inside while the kids(6-7 of them no older than 3) slept inside the playroom located downstairs(but not in direct view of the front door) - After picking him up, I started thinking...why was she outside? What if one of the kids were choking? Naturally 3 years olds can yell for help, but what about kidnapping? molestation? People are crazy now-a-days - Sure I don't know how long she was out there or if she was peeping in on them every 5 minutes, but I do know she didn't have a monitor with her...and I'm such an idiot because I didnt think about this until driving home. Even though the distance between the front door and room isn't too far, they were left unattended. Coupled with the fact his nose was dirty with boogers again(see my last question) - should I dump this provider?

My son is 12 months old.. too young to color or watch movies. We are going on vacation next month and will be on a 3-4hr plane ride. How can I possibly keep him calm and well behaved? He will be sitting in my lap for the flight and tends to get VERY annoyed if he is held while sitting.

I haven't flown in a very long time (since I was a child). Can I walk around with him once the plane is in the air? Can I bring snacks and a bottle on board? How many toys do you think I can carry on?

I heard a woman was recently kicked off a flight because she couldn't calm her toddler. I am worried. I also have a horrible fear of flying so my husband may end up doing all the work (I may need to take an RX). I do not agree with giving a child medication to calm them. What can I do?
