My six month old son rarely shows any sign of activity or interest in the world. I'm not sure if he's just tired or if something's wrong with him. Should I take him to the doctor? Please help, I'm really worried.

When I act all giggly and silly around him he just stares at me like I'm crazy...
He's never really shown any interest in playing with his toys. He literally eats, sleeps, and stares at the ceiling.

Isn't this a great forum? Sounds like you are afraid of what you might find out, I would be too. Like you really don't want to know, so you are afraid to voice your fears. I hope it all works out for the best given time. If it were me, I would need someone to go with me for reinforcement so the doctor didn't just tell me to 'wait and see'. I know our grandson didn't focus on anything at all for over four months, even a baby eye doctor documented this on two visits, but they said the baby was too young to really say what was going on for sure or to do anything about it just yet. But blessedly, suddenly, in one month, he snapped out of it and his eyes seem fine since then. In your case, what if this is a health problem that is undiagnosed? Don't wait ! Good luck and God bless you.

Does he ever look at your face, no matter what you are doing, and just smile to see you? If not, I would maybe talk to your doctor about it. At 6 months he should take some interest in whats going on around him.... or at least if he sees your face. My oldest son was a very serious baby... we joked we had to turn cartwheels to get him to smile. Oh, another thing I just thought of - maybe have his hearing checked. Maybe he's not showing interest because he's not hearing anything. Anyways, either way, definitely talk to your doctor about it. Your instinct is always best. Good luck!

"When I act all giggly and silly around him he just stares at me like I'm crazy..." Well...maybe he DOES think you're crazy...As for playing with his toys...he's only 6 months old...there really isn't much he CAN do at this point with toys other than chew on them, etc. What exactaly are you expecting him to do at this stage? If you're that worried though I do suggest you take him to the doctor...

Well, some babies take longer to come around to being active. The next time he goes in for a checkup to get his shots ask his Dr then or give his pediatrician a call. There's no need in you getting yourself worked up without finding out for yourself. Trust me you are just prolonging your agony if you don't do something about it.

Yes, when ever you have a worry, take him to the doctor. My daughter was a ball of life at 3 months.

Best of luck...

If the only signs he is showing is disinterest I don't think I would go as far as to take him to the doctors. That seems a little extreme.
