Jesus your son is four lady. You must be one of those drug happy quacks. Does your son have a melatonin deficancy or are you just hoping to get a quick fix? If your son is 4 than you may consider being a firm parent, and making him go to bed. Set the mood for rest. Dim the lights, put in a night light that he will love, put a cd player in his room and play relaxing music or a bedtime story for christ sake.

NO!!! Don't medicate your child! Adjust the schedule. How is he staying up past his bedtime??? Because you allow it. If he naps during the day, change the time to a little earlier. If he is fighting you, remember YOU make the rules. Try some warm milk, alot of exercise during the day and a hearty supper. They'll pass out like a teenage girl meeting Brad Pitt.

No! Try getting a bed time routine in place that calms him down. This works great for my 5 and 3 year old. Baths, then they pick 2 books each to read, I have them sit in my bed and we read. Usually by the time I'm done reading they are sleeping or ready to be put in there beds.

Work on getting your son to bed earlier 10 to 20 minutes at a time. Read to him, or give him a bath and put him in his Jammie's right after dinner. Start getting him to bed like at 7 then maybe by 8 to 8;30 he will be asleep. Don't give him medications, feed less sugar or pop..... let him get plenty of exercise and fresh air during the day (that always poops them out) and get him up early (10 mins at a time).... once you get him on a schedule, stick to it. It helps too that everyone in the house is on about the same schedule... my son and I go to bed at 8pm... i get up at 3:30am, he gets up at 6am... every morning even weekends. works good for keeping him in a good mood..plenty of sleep.

He is too little to give him much of anything besides children's vitamins. If he is still taking an afternoon nap, stop letting him, or cut it short. Try quiet time for an hour before bed and give him milk before bed. Make sure he plays outside a lot and then, relax and let your child play if he needs to--just make him do it in his room!

Alternatives:
1. Your child may be a night owl, but I have found that if you remove stimulation such as bright lights in the house, TV, radio's, the child will go to sleep.
2. Enroll him in swimming classes, take him to the park, let him play with other kids.
3. Regular bed time, and stick to it.

Please, before you do anything, make an appt. with his pediatrician on this one. Why? Because as your son's dr, he needs to know this, plus, he has solutions for it, not pills. Please, if your son naps during the day, make his bedtime a little bit later at night, or his nap time a little earlier. He could have some warm (not hot) milk at close to bedtime, that can help him sleep. Hot coco is good too.

NEVER give your baby any medication, unless it was prescribed by a dr. or an over the counter med for children.

You really really really need to ask a doctor, not a bunch of uninformed losers on the internet. And if you haven't alreayd, you really really really need to try some other sleep techniques before you resort to drugs.
