One daughter has VUR (vesicoureteral reflux) and there is a 20% chance of her siblings having it as well. This can lead to serious urinary tract infections, and so on.

My question is would you put a 4 year old and a 2 year old through this test even though they have never had symptoms ? Or would you wait for symptoms because of that slim chance. We are talking that there is an 80% chance that they do not have it...

Thanks...

I haven't used a babysitter in years. My husband and I are going out to dinner tonight and need to know how much to pay the sitter for watching our 4 year old daughter. Our 9 year old son will be there, too, but the sitter's brother and he will be playing video games all night.

I am in the process of weaning my 10 month old off the bottle onto sippy cups. He has been using sippy cups in some capacity since he was about 5-6 months old. I have sucessfully taken away every bottle except the bedtime bottle. I am mainly concerned that he will not stay full and sleep through the night when I do take the bedtime bottle. I know I can get him to sleep without it, but I am worried that without that 7oz of formula he will wake up earlier out of hunger. He has been sleeping through the night since about 8 weeks, and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize that. :) Just FYI - he is on three meals a day and drink formula from his sippy cup during meals. Suggestions?? Thanks!

I want to visit my friend in Philly this summer. Rather than drive, I was thinking of either flying or taking a train with my two year old. Is there a portable, easy-to-carry car seat available for kids about 25 pounds? I have thought of the backless booster, but I think my son would have to weigh more.

He is a big baby, weighting 81/2 lbs at birth. She took him to the doctor yesterday for a check-up. He is already almost 17lbs, but has grown 5 inches longer. The doctor say he very well proportioned. The father is 6'3" and a large man. The doctor had her start him on cereal a couple of weeks ago. which I wasn't too surprised about. What did surprise me is that he told her to start giving him fruits and vegetable once a day. I thought 6 months was the normal time to begin this. I wonder if it is because he is so big. Any comments?

He doesn't like to drink anythign except "RICE drink" as it is similar to milk. He does not care for any flavor of Pedilyte or juice or anything. I am worring about him becoming dehydarted. Is it allowed to offer him Soymik? I read the ingredients and there is no diary products. Any suggestions?....

My hubby and I are going to a monster truck show on Saturday and I am really excited... The thing is that I have never been to one so I don't know what to expect, and my hubby really wants to take our 2 1/2 year old son with us.... The show is in an indoor areana, and it will be an hour from home.... My question is, is it ok to take him or is he too young?? I know we'd have to buy him ear plugs before we go, but if it IS ok,then what else should I know before taking him with.. It will start at like 7-8 pm....

Another question... I am 6 months pregnant... is is safe for me to go??? I am assuming there will be a lot of smoke and dust, and that is why I am wondering about me and our son going.... Please give advice and opinions!!!!!

Also what should I expect.. my husband says that there are going to be cars races, and monster trucks and dirt bikes.....

The only reason we are gong is because he won tickets......

I have a 26 month old that goes easily on the child-size potty. I'm now ready for him to start using the big potty; the main toliet. Problem is that we have an oblong toliet seat and he fell in before. Now, he won't even try to sit on it. I've gone to a few websites and I can find a "child"/"potty training seat" for an oblong toliet. Any suggestions??

My dad went to pick up my 2 yrs old baby at daycare and her arm was totally scratched up... They told him it seemed like a rash, which was obviously not... It seemed like the kid who did it had all the time in the world to tear it up...there were scratches left and right and nooow today the dc director is saying she mightve fallen outside and scratched it...It doesnt look like that...they look like scratch marks...Im so pissed!... How do I fight that...I guess I wont be able to prove it, but it's not fair since the baby cant tell me who it was!!! I know I need to talk to the director cause I think they shouldve noticed this happening and not try to cover it saying it was a rash... !! Do have any other ideas of what I can tell her or ask her?? These were obviously not "branch" scratches and I dont they should EVEN be playing with branches outside... This is one of the best daycares in town and I pay good money but just the way the director is trying to cover the teacher enfuriating

Brought my daughter into urgent care because we just moved and dont have a dr. she has a cold. did a check up listened to her heart etc she is wheezing. got x-rays they dont show anything bad. so he gave her a nebulizer treatment in the hospital. did say she was starting an ear infection as well. so I got a nebulizer a script for albuterol 0.83 mg/ml solution, prednisolone 15mg/5 ml soln and amoxicillin 400 mg/5 ml susp.
The dr. knew how old she was but i couldnt read the script so i dont know if they did it right and i didnt bring in my daughter to the pharmacy just the script and her insurance card.
now i am just concerned if this is right for her? is it too much? There had been a little girl who died of an overdose in the news last week so i am getting a bit concerned. any help would be appreciated.

My daughter who is 2 in March has been successfuly toilet trained for the past 6 months. Within the last 6 months she has had very little accidents & even goes to the ''big'' toilet on her own with asking for help or anything. She even asks me to close the door behind me on my way out lol!

Anyway, for the past 3 or 4 days, its seems shes finding it hard to 'hold' it in. An example, she just went to the kitchen there and ran straight back in shouting toilet, heading towards her potty that sits in the sittingroom but her urine was running down her legs before she actually sat on her potty. She does not have any accidents with her no2 tho. Its just really frustrating not only for me but for my daughter as well.

She has been on a course of antibiotics for 4 days, I dont know if this may have anything to do wtih it? I thought she may have had a little infection but i thought the antibiotics would clear it?

Thanks

The first time she went poo poo in it, it happened to be a giant hard turd. It hurt her, now she is afraid to poo in her potty chair. any ideas on how to convince her it won't always be that way?

I've been working as a Nanny with a family for over 5 years now, and I am yet to meet another nanny. I'm writing this as I am interested in what other Nannies do, in this job you seldom get any feedback and I sometimes wonder if I am a good nanny, or could I be better. How much do nannies usually get paid? What ages are your charges? Whats your favourite activities to do? I am interested in everything lol.
I look after 5 children from 9yrs to 5 months - in school holidays its tough to find activities to suit all the children at the same time! School time is easy, I only have a 2 yr old and the baby - we go to carer/toddler groups which have a range of toys and activities, and messy play (great for me, cos we get to have fun and I dont have to clean up!) We enjoy afternoons out at the park, feeding ducks, softplay centres, farms all the usual.I get paid £1000 a month after tax, which seems good to me, and I dont do housework! I'm loving this job so far,I hope I get another 5 yrs here!!
