My daughter who is 2 in March has been successfuly toilet trained for the past 6 months. Within the last 6 months she has had very little accidents & even goes to the ''big'' toilet on her own with asking for help or anything. She even asks me to close the door behind me on my way out lol!

Anyway, for the past 3 or 4 days, its seems shes finding it hard to 'hold' it in. An example, she just went to the kitchen there and ran straight back in shouting toilet, heading towards her potty that sits in the sittingroom but her urine was running down her legs before she actually sat on her potty. She does not have any accidents with her no2 tho. Its just really frustrating not only for me but for my daughter as well.

She has been on a course of antibiotics for 4 days, I dont know if this may have anything to do wtih it? I thought she may have had a little infection but i thought the antibiotics would clear it?

Thanks

I doubt that the antibiotics would cause this. She's probably just playing and not paying attention to the fact that she has to go. All kids backslide a bit. She's only 2, so it wouldnt bother me. I think that she's doing good for her age. When playing, pay attention to her, and if she starts getting fidgity, tell her that its time to go to the bathroom. That will cure it. And relax,.. she's doing great for her age.

It could be that she has a mild bladder infection. If she's on antibiotics, that should clear it up. But antibiotics have never caused my children to have problems with holding it. You could always call and as the peditrician, though.

What I think is more likely, is this. She has been potty trained in the last year. When children are first potty trained, they pay very close attention to it. As soon as they feel the slightest twinge, they rush to the potty so they don't have an accident. But as time goes on, they feel more confident and don't pay as much attention to their body's signals. So often times, by the time they register they have to go pee, it's a mad dash to the bathroom and often too late. If this is the case, just keep giving her positive reinforcements and try to monitor how often she goes potty. If it's been a while, ask her if she needs to go to remind her to listen her own body.

Also, has anything major changed in your family's life recently? Any major changes can upset a child's potty training and cause them to revert. I did it as a baby because my brother was born and my father was shipped out by the USAF to Egypt all within a month. My own daughter reverted when we moved from Utah to Florida. So if there's been any major changes, just be patient, she will get back on track in time.

She is 2 years old and she has been sick. No child is completely potty trained at 2.. there muscle control in the bladder area is not completely developed yet.
Accidents still happen through 5 years old.
Get some of those training pants in the meantime, so the poor thing doesn't have urine running down her leg during this sickness.

It sounds to me like it could possibly be a urine infection, although I would have thought that the antibiotics she is on at the mo would have cleared it. Best to take her to the Doctor's and have it checked as if it is an infection, it might need stronger antibiotics ( it can also be quite painful ).

hi, i would make another appt for your little girl, amoxicillin is what she would get if she had been diagnosed with a urine infection, sometimes antibiotics can bring on infection at bay or worsen a condition so she may have a little urine infection but needs different antibs, dont worry too much if it is this, if u make another appt you are doing all you can, i know its frustrating but try not to get cross with her cos she'll associate that the goin potty x

Did the doctor prescribe the antibiotics? It sounds as though it is affecting your daughters bladder or she might be waiting until the last minute to run to the bathroom but she don't sound as if she would wait she sound like she is ready to master the potty. She will be fine take her to the doctor again if and explain to the doctor what's going on.

I wonder if she is on the correct antibiotics for a urine infection. I would take her back to the GP. Does she have the language to tell you if it hurts when she passes water?
Bless her I am sure its just where she is poorly at the moment and will get back to normal soon.

If the anti biotics were not for a urine infec in the first place then they wouldn t clear it. Could poss be that she has a urine infec comin on but most likely be that she is deeply engaging in an activity and waiting too long before going to the loo...x

i would not have thought this was due to the antibiotics it may be that she is more focused on playing with something and not realizing she needs the toilet till the last minute but if you are worried i would take her back to the doctors
