I am planning a birthday party for my son and daughter. They are going to be 1 and 2 years old. I want to do a red themed party...her favorite color and simple enough for him to understand. Any suggestions on appetizers...and decorations?

My two and a half year old son throws fits. Usually I place him in time out and ignore him and he is fine in like 5-10 minutes. He has however had a few really bad one where he hits, pulls hair, and flails about, uncontrollable screaming. These last longer and time out doesn't work. When I put him in his room he runs into the door. When you look into his eyes its like the lights are on but no one is home. Is this normal?

My daughter is 2 1/2 and is completely innocent and naive. I recently discovered there are two registered sex offenders not far from our home. I want her to be safe. She's of course not allowed outside by herself but I want to know how to talk to her about it without scaring the crap out of her.

I signed up for ballet lessons for my 3-year-old. We spent a bit of money on her ballet costume, slippers, etc. as well.
She had fun the first time, but the second time she went she came out crying hysterically and saying she didn't want to go any more. She's only 3, so I think it's ok if she doesn't want to go-- that we shouldn't force her. She doesn't go to daycare, so I think it's a little overwhelming for her (separation anxiety??).
My husband, on the other hand, says I should push her and make her go even if she doesn't want to, since we already spent so much money. He thinks not pushing her now will make her a quitter later in life.
I feel so bad making her go if she's crying that she doesn't want to!
What do you think?

I'm thinking of starting my 3 1/2 year old daughter in a dance class. But I'm worried that it might be too early and a waste of time and money until she is older. At what age would a dance class be less like a day care and more serious and skill teaching? Not that she's going to become a professional, but don't most people that you hear are successful at things usually start around 3 or 4? Also what are good ages to start sports, swimming, singing, music lessons, and other activities? No, I'm not going to have her to do all of these, I'm just wondering. And how do you know what activities your child is going to enjoy and be good at, when they say they like doing everything? Please no rude comments. I know she still needs to be a kid, I just want her to have an actvity to do once a week and look forward to. Thanks for advice and suggestions.

My one year old son has six teeth and I am trying to get him off the bottle but he refuse a sippy cup. He will take juice from a sippy but not milk. I have tried almost every kind of sippy and as soon as he tastes that it is milk and not juice he throws the cup and will not drink it. Any suggestions would be nice.

I have a four year old who is attending a Pre-K class at the local Lower Elementary School. They will be having a "Fall Party" on Halloween day. This is what they have to say about bringing snacks to school for the kids to hand out to their friends: "As you know, our school system is promoting HEALTHY snacks for out students to consume. Beacuse this is a special holiday for those of you who celebrate Halloween, you will be allowed to send ONLY individually wrapped treats for your chils to distribute at school. NO CUPCAKES will be allowed. Please keep in mind to try to send HEALTHY treats.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what I can send?

My son always whines when he does not get his way. When he's good I surprise him with something small and let him know how good he is. For the most part he never gives me the chance to do that. I tell him we are going to the grocery store he falls to the ground and whines. That's with anything. He always says he never gets anything when he does. I put him on a schedule, but I don't know if it does any good. Then, when I just snap and get mad for the continuous behvior, he tries to manipulate and get you to feel sorry for him saing things like "I'm just a dumb freak". I don't know what to do. He's a really smart kid and very fun to be around when he's happy. I just don't know how to keep it that way and feel like im doing the right thing by him.

My daughter will celebrate her first birthday on Thanksgiving day this year. Her cousin was born 4 years ago, on Thanksgiving that year... we arent close with that cousin or her parents, but my mother-in-law has said many times how 'great it will be that they will be able to share their birthday together every year'.

Should we be forced to share birthdays? I understand that it's great that family will be together and it logistically makes sense, but I think that birthday celebrations are special and shouldnt be shared.

Any ideas or suggestions are most appreciated! : ) Thanks!

We just took family photos and they turned out really nice. My son isn't even two yet, but has a really deep voice and a lot of height. Just wondered if there might be any fun we could have with this while he's still so young. Like fisher price commercials or taste testing? Something like that. Where do we start?
