It sounds like he very well could be at least lactose intolerant, but before you take him off of it and jump to soy definately talk to his pediatrician and also consider a few other factors. First off, he may just have a VERY sensitive stomache, which may just need a little more time to toughen up. If you give him milk cold try warming it up and if that works then gradually give it to him cooler and cooler until his tummy adjusts.
But, even if it is indeed an allergy or intolerance to cow's milk kep in mind that a lot of kids will outgrow that by school age. Also, you don't have to give him soy, there are other cow's milk alternatives such as rice milk which is much easier on their stomaches (that's why the first infant cereal you generally introduce is rice) and doesn't have some of the possible bad side effects as soy supposedly has.
Definately talk to the doctor and look in to it yourself before you make the final decision. Good luck and God bless.

Diarrhea is not a symptom of a milk allergy but a lactose intolerance. Lactose intolerance is when your body has difficulty processing the lactose, but it has nothing to do with whether your body is allergic (I have this.) I would try to switch over to a non-dairy milk at first, but be careful because many people have intolerances to soy too. I might try lactose free milk at first and see if there is a difference in his stools. It may also be a coindidence. The way I originally found out I was lactose intolerant was I didn't eat or drink anything and I was feeling fine. Then I drank a huge glass of milk and within 10 to 20 minutes I was doubled over and running to the bathroom. If your child does have lactose intolerance, there isn't a lot a doctor can do. You can buy over the counter lactose drugs, but they really don't do that good of a job. Make sure your little guy gets the calcium needed though. I'm horrible about that, I try to buy calcium enriched juice too. Good luck, oh, I also tried Goat's Milk and I didn't seem to get as sick on that as cow's milk.

my son is lactose intolerant (not an allergy, I took him to the allergy doctor).
Basically he was throwing up about 20 times a day. Cutting out dairy and switching him to soy milk helped dramatically. I think he's out growing it though, on his 3 year dr appt, I'm going to talk to his doctor about trying milk again.

My son and daughter are both milk allergies..we were milk free for along time, but when son started going to school he drank milk and had chronic ear infections..Dr said caused by milk..so we discontinued milk and no more ear problems...when daughter started drinking milk at school we did have the diarrhea problem with her. Not every time she had milk..but often enough to determine the cause. She is now 23, graduated from college and still if she drinks milk, eats ice cream, ect..she will often...but not every time..have the problem again. So she just drinks soy and eats lactose free ice cream..she has learned to deal with it.

I don't believe that diaper rash is a symptom of milk allergy but maybe it's causing a change in his urine and making it more acidic. But the diarrhea is definitely an issue which is probably the cause of the rash. You should call his dr. because he isn't properly digesting his milk and he runs a high risk of dehydration. Try soy milk... but speak with your dr. first.

Well, I am lactose intolerant and I never got diarrhea from it. I would get nauseated from it and gassy but not diarrhea. I'm sorry I don't know if kids have similar symptoms, I didn't find out until I was 23.

My son did not get diarrhea he did how ever vomit violently, I swear that for every ounce that went it 6 came out. What you can do is take him off it completely.Wait for his tummy to settle, then start on every small amounts. See if he has a reaction to these, if not then slowly up the amount he is getting. Also it may be that he is not so much allergic as lactose intolerant. This know will cause gas and the runs.

Diarrea, stomach ache and vomiting are the main signs. I used Lactaid milk with my one child who seem to be lactose intolerent and it worked great then I slowly weaned her over to regular milk ( when she was about 21/2) since then things have been fine.

You should ask your doctor first thing. How ever my son is allergic to milk and he kept diarrhea and had a very bad diaper rash . He would also bleed from where the milk was irratating his insides .our doctor told us now that he is turnig one that we would be suprised how little of servings of milk he would need to meet his daily amount of milk servings ,and where he can get his servings from.
