I am planning a birthday party for my son and daughter. They are going to be 1 and 2 years old. I want to do a red themed party...her favorite color and simple enough for him to understand. Any suggestions on appetizers...and decorations?

Wel how can you go wrong with Elmo! All red seems a bit much. But if you mix it up with say a funky green and a bright blue or yellow?
How about Red velvet cake? Ice cream cups with strawberry. Veggie tray tomatos and red peppers. Hawiian Punch. Chili? Sloppy Joe's?? Pick two colors you like or more.

Check out you local Dollar store for bargins.

Starlight mints. Family fun has great ideas and Martha Stewart too.

How about Elmo? My nephew still loves him at age three. Might be tough this season, but watermelon, apple, and strawberry slices might be a good start. As for drinks, try raspberry lemonade, diluted with water to cut down on sugar. Streamers and balloons are very attractive at a party, too. I definately suggest Elmo-themed things.

red roses/flowers, little red riding hood, or a fall picking apples theme. My daughter also really likes the color red, I think it's because it's the first color that she learned. She also really loves birds...what about a bird theme? or animal theme...you can do all the different animals that have red like parots, butterflies, ladybugs, etc.

Why not customise some Dorothy shoes as a momento. If you look near the bottom of the page below you'll see some little shoes that have been covered.

keep in mind red dye taste bad (frosting) and stains cloths bad. I would use red only as an accent color on the cake and provide all the kids with a bib. Good Luck

Ok, so my mom did this for my sister about 20 years ago but it's was way cute. (I saw the pictures) Cake: ladybug! Just a dome cake with the frosting making the dome look like a lady bug! Just an idea. (fyi: my sister saw one look at it and cried. then again, she always was a brat! lol)
