My daughter is 2 1/2 and is completely innocent and naive. I recently discovered there are two registered sex offenders not far from our home. I want her to be safe. She's of course not allowed outside by herself but I want to know how to talk to her about it without scaring the crap out of her.

With my kids I casualy bring it up like driving in the car and tell them about bad people then ask them questions ...like what do you do if a person you don't know comes up to you and (fill in) Then the answer I though them was find a Mommy ( if I happened to not be around), fire fight so on. Or Scream HELP bite and kick too.

personally i think your childs abit young to understand all this. i think its more important to talk about the whole stranger thing when she is abit older and is playing with other children outside and not with you all the time anyways. at 4 my child is still always by my side and is never on his own with strange people.
like someone said what exactly is a stranger at their age? nearly everyone is.

at that age it is very hard for u to tell her not to talk to strangers because exactly what is a stranger, they look at it as some kind of monster. at that age u should be with her at all times and she shouldn't be exposed to that so when she gets a little older then u can have a talk with her

What my friend did (which seemed to work) is sat her child down and had him watch Finding Nemo. Then had the discussion about how Nemo didn't listen to his dad and a stranger took him.
