I'm in my early twenties and no where near ready to have children. I'm not married yet, but I'm in a commited relationship. When I think about my future I don't see myself with children. I feel like I am not a normal woman, because all my friends are baby crazy. Do you think that as I get older I will change my mind about children? Did you always want to have children?

I am researching in case of the event that I become a single teen parent and I would appreciate your help. My goal is to come up with a monthly budget.

- Common Jobs a teenager without a high school diploma can obtain. What would you make (on average for one month?). List the job and hourly or monthly income.

- Grocery pieces (make a grocery list and go to the supermarket to total up what the theoretical bill would be for one week? one month?)

- Apartment prices (1 bedroom apartment in Broward County, Florida)

- Baby expenses (diapers, formulas, baby wipes, etc...)

- Miscellaneous expenses (Gas for car or public transportation, doctor's bills, etc)

Do you think I could emotionally handle parenthood as a teenager?

Do you think I could financially handle parenthood as a teenager?

Help from any mothers out there would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you have 2 kids.An 8year old and a 6 year old.The 8 year old opens up a present and gets a toy.5 minutes later he puts it down and the 6 year old starts to play with it.The 8 year old gets mad and says its his and takes it away from the 6 year old who starts to cry.Do you tell the 6 year old that its his brothers and explain it to him that its not his.Or..do you tell the 8 year old to share.

what do you say to one or the other or both?

My son is almost 11 months and all he does is roll or scoot to an object. He hasn't gotten to crawling yet. I see other kids and they're the same age and almost walking. He's a very happy child and everything else is going okay. I just want to know if this is common or if I should be worried.

I'd first like to say I'm not encouraging teenage pregnancies. I've noticed a lot on this board that people have blamed a lot of societies problems on young parents and even saying that all young parents should get abortions. That really bothers me!

It just makes me think--does anyone honestly know if they are ready to become a parent? I know if I were thirty I would still wonder if I would measure up to the challenges. Many parents [teen and ‘adult’] step up to the challenge of being a parent and work their hardest to become that perfect parent everyone wants them to be. So, if no one really knows when will be the right time and people [not only teens] are having unprotected sex then why blame young parents for all of the problems in our youth? Why is there such a stigma on having children young if people step up and make things work? If only people would encourage these young mothers instead of criticize them I think teen parenting would have a bigger success rate.

i am stay at home mom, i have been for the past yr. This is the first time i have ever stayed home this long without working. I love my kids more than anything. Sometimes, i feel over whelmed along with cabin fever. I am with them 24 hours a day, we stay home, with little or no money can't really do much. It's hard to go anywhere with a toddler and an infant. Is this normal to feel this way. I am used to going to work, bringing home income, helping my husband out financially. But now it's like i can't do that with two kids. I guess i just needed to vent. :(

I had a mixed martial art show on television, I walked away to go get a drink of water. Come back and see on the TV two girls making out as part of a commercial. You see strippers on bill boards. You are on the internet on a site that is for a legitimate purpose then you see near naked women links. There are endless examples. Is there anyway to protect children from all the perversions society is selling?

The mother was an abused child and doesn't believe in spanking her child, I have 4 children of my own (16-5),I do know kids, I have this little boy 50-60 hrs per wk. and he doen't listen at all. I know for a fact that he is very spoiled since he is her first child. When I would tell her how he was for that day, she would laugh and say well he's only 14mon., so I stopped saying anything because it felt like a waste of time. I don't claim to be an expert but w/4 children of my own plus I do daycare ages running from 6 months to 10 and have for many years, , all the others listen and do what they are told except for him. What can I do for this one little boy?

I'm of course referring to the recent abduction of Maddie McCann from England in Portugal?

Would the price of KNOWING where to find your child at ALL times be worth the minor discomfort of implanting the tag under our kids skins?

I believe that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks...

I am a fun mother, I play an awful lot with my son and make him laugh all the time. The thing is, when he does something wrong, I shout at him to stop. People tell me I am wrong for doing this, however, compared to others his age, he is very calm and respectful towards other people's things. Then they compliment me on that. Well, how do you think I got him to be so respectful? By freakin' shouting at him, letting him know it's wrong. So should I shout at him or not? I'm afraid if I stop, he'll be a bad little boy.

I just saw a story in the news about a couple who left their 4-yr old and 2-yr old twins sleeping in a hotel while they went out to eat. They returned and Maddie (the 4-yr old) was gone. This was in Portugal.

Now, I disagree with their decision to leave the children, even asleep, for that long a period. But it made me wonder, how long is too long? One scenerio was brought up... if your kids are asleep and you're in the back yard enjoying a sunset with your spouse, and someone breaks in and steals the kids, does that make you a "bad parent" because the kids were alone in the house?

Or the mom who stepped only a couple yards away to return a shopping cart, only to return and find her child gone from her buckled car seat...

How far is too far? How long is too long? an What is this !!!! world coming to?

My child is 8 yrs old and asking questions about "birds and the bees".
I remember learning in school during 5th grade "sex-ed".
I would like to be honest and open with her and teach her "how things work" but, don't know exactly how to approach it tactfully.
I think visuals would be most effective.
Any advice on good EDUCATIONAL books /movies for kids?
Thank you in advance for any serious, parenting help.

A couple asked my advice and I'm not sure what to tell them. They are great parents to a healthy boy and girl. They want to have another child, but because of a prevalence of severe developmental disabilities in the children in the surrounding family, they are not sure if they should press their luck. In actuality the risk for them is not that much greater than anyone else's risk for having a developmentally delayed child (5% to 18% for them compared to 3% for the general population). They see developmentally delayed children on both sides of the family (4 children out of 7 are severely delayed) , and are not sure they could raise such children. Bottom line: Their life is great the way it is, but they feel it would be even better with another child. However, they see first-hand the burden a disabled child puts on a family and are realistically unsure of their capabilites (or even their desire to care for such a child). I don't have children myself, so I ask for your help.
