Instead of asking them for money out right, just say, mom/dad, I would like to know if there is anything that I can do to earn some money for _____. This always worked when I was younger and my kids do the same.
If it's a "large" sum of money (like $100 or more) then ask if you can do some chores for a neighbor, grandma, aunt, uncle etc so your parents don't have to come up with all of it.
Good luck!

Tell your parents that you are looking to raise enogh cash for a purchase and ask them if they could employ you. This employment aarrangement should not be short-term for a onetime purchase but a regularly scheduled event to allow you a consistent cash flow which will allow you to budget for purchases and end the need to "ask" for cash. Everyone will benefit because your parents will have a set wage for you that they can budget for, thus eliminating the need for them to assume the burden of coming up with quick cash whenever you feel the need.

Well if you ask them for money you kinda have to bother them. How old are you? If you're old enough to get a job then maybe you can get a part time summer job or something that way you don't have to ask them!

It is never a bother. Secretly I think parents like to see their kids beg for money. It is the only time kids will have a conver sation with the parents.

I guess it depends on how old you are...if you are to young for a job then just be nice and ask them...

If you are older, have a good reason and be willing to help them or something and work for it.

Most people respond to guilt best. Usually the best method is to act like you feel hopeless that they will help you, making them think that you see them as selfish and stingy, so they will need to prove to themselves that they are not bad people by giving you what you need.

Maybe ask them if there's something you could do like a chore or something that they'd be willing to pay you for?

me and my sis used to leave a note on the coffee pot asking him to leave us cash for lunch or whatever. he was pretty good about leaving a nice letter beside the coffee pot saying 'pack your own lunch' or a list of chores with 40 bucks on it.
