my older daughter threw a big fit at the mall today, acted like a three year old when i wouldn't buy her the dress she wanted, she even went as far as calling my a *****, i was so furious that she would talk back and act so immature, she defiantly needs a punishment, and im thinking of something that will show her how much of a baby she acted like! she already getting soap for calling me a *****, what should i do for her acting like a immature child?

Doesn't she have a job to buy her own things by age 18! I had a part-time job and going to school full-time when I was 16 and had purchased my own car at 17. She obviously doesn't know the value of a dollar and you really need to make her get a job and buy her own things. By the time I was 19 I also had to pay room & board to my parents. You are making things too easy if you are still splitting the bill at her age! If she had a job then you wouldn't even be asking this question.

Wow...I would say a good bare bottom spanking with your hand or your belt would do her a world of good. She is way to old to be throwing tantrums but since she acted like that...she does need to be given a good punishment. My parents were firm believers in spanking and I grew up a better person for them. There is a huge difference in abuse and a spanking as a punishment. My dad used spanking as a punishment for us, yet he never once hurt any of us...just left us with a stinging and red backside. I don't think she's too old for a spanking either...I got spanked until I was 20. My dad always spanked us the same way...bare bottom, over his knee and straight to the corner with a bare bottom after wards. After corner time was done he sat us down and had a long talk with us about our behavior and what we did wrong and what he expected from us.

We have an 18 year old son. He can move out anytime he likes and he knows it. We have told him that we would love him to stick around if he can put up with our immature ways.
It was obviously important for her. Not sure soap is the way to go. Aren't they funny... they are sort of like adults and want to be treated like it... and yet they do this weird stuff like getting sulky over the fact that there is no milk left for his cereal. I am hoping he gets the hang of being an adult soon.
As for cussing profanities .. that's her way of showing she is grown up! (I'm an adult and you don't control me). But she is unable to separate the adult from the childish emotions. They really are at a funny age.
We got advice from our very good friends recently. Their daughter.. who gave them hell on Earth... is now 19. She wrote a nice letter from University apologising about how horrible she must have been over the previous 5 years, how she loves them very much and now truly appreciates that whatever they did for her they did with lots of care, love and affection. So for now, I am satisfied that apparently our efforts may eventually sink in. We are not expecting such a flood of emotion frmo our son.. but a change of attitude is a good sign.
As for the dress... she is old enough to do some part time work and contribute towards it herself. You could make a bargain with her and address her as an adult to resolve these situations.

Don't offer her any monetary assistance for a long time. She needs to realize that she is now an adult, and can not rely on her parents to buy her everything. If she wants the dress so bad, then she can go out and get a job to pay for it herself. It will teach her financial responsibility, and perhaps make her realize how lucky she is to have parents who care and love her. I wish you the best of luck!!

You need to GROUND her. But tell her thats not it.
Tell her that you are going to start treating her like shes 3.
Which includes no car no mall no NOTHING without her pearents.

uh hello she is 18 and u cant not punish her any more..unless... she is still living in ur home or still being supported by u in some way. have a talk with her at home in private. and if she still believes or wants u to support her in some ways, you should have her do some service of some kind and earn what she gets. threaten to take away what ever it is that she is sticking around for and if that dont work..tell her to hit the road she is an adult. but while she is still in ur wallet for what ever reason. she shld pay u more respect.

that is simple, ground her, take her car keys if she drive, tell her that she cannot be on phone, on computer, etc and make her do extra chores around and tell her to get a job to buy that dress

SPANK HER
or lock her up and threaten to shave her head if she doesn't respond to spanking.
or-make her sit in a corner for a timeout.

Shes 18 years old she should be able to act respectfully.
Personally I would refuse to pay for her expenses and and threaten to have her move out...
