Full custody step mom of husband’s 5 kids from prior marriage, ages 12-22. All immigrants & Muslim,12yo is only girl, treated harshly since she is both female & the youngest. Their home country still does genital mutilation of females; husband lied to me about that (and many other things resulting in me being in this situation). And Muslims R not known to be pro-female. Example of a recurring prob: Girl is in living room & starts to play loudly. Her 4 brothers ages 15-22 are super loud but they seem to notice it more when she is. She is talking to me later about something when the 22 yr old comes out of the bathroom & hears the complaints of his brothers about her. He angrily interrupts our conversation & tells her in their language to go to her bedroom & not come out. I say “Um, do you need a timer.”? He says no. She'll stay for two, three hours without knowing the deadline & says it to me in a case-closed tone. Husband says “What's your problem with that?!" and "NO counseling ever!"

We have 3 kids; the oldest 1 is not doing too well in school. It isn't b/c he doesn't understand the work. He's too distracted, telling on the other kids, messy handwriting etc. he’s a well behaved kid, very respectable towards adults. I've put together a system to go over the work his work a week prior and week after. I will begin sitting in his class 2-3 times during the week to find out what he's doing, etc. My other two girls were recognized for their acemedics this week. The grandparents told the girls they would take them out to celebrate. Grandparents called earlier wanting to know what time they can pick the kids up, all 3. I shared with them that I prefer that the girls go, and our son stay here to study, work on his handwriting. They said we are punishing him, and abusing him b/c of keeping him away from people that love him. Share your thoughts, and do you think my husband and I are going by this the wrong way?

such as,

"this is an issue," this is really bad, you have to take her to the doctor."

I tell her its a dry scalp, not an ISSUE, it just means her scalp is dry, quit making such a fuss over nothing. it happens every winter, just like her dad and myself. How can I get her to lay off?

I'm not in a position to become one just yet. I just wondered if I should put it in my life plan.

I never really wanted kids.
I work stupid hours.
My career is really important to me.
Is becoming a father really worth giving it all up?
How much do you actually have to give up?

His doctor said to give him milk, well he absolutly refuses to drink it.He throws his bottle, he throws his sippy cup, he pushes them out of my hands, after only a sip. I weaned him onto it first, from formula. What other things could I try, maybe warming it?

Where can I find a place or people who are willing to help me provide a better life for myself and children in my local area. I am working FT, attending college, with three kids. I really am in need of helping like figures, or any organization who is willing to help me get ahead and be self supporting of my family. My main issues are childcare that is safe, reliable, and affordable while I attend class, and work. I am finding that many mean based programs don't help b/c the more I make the less help you recieve, I don't have the time to wait on hand outs b/c I work, or many of the programs are swamped (headstart)ex :public aid, WIC,. Since I have some college education and a nursing assistant certificate and above average wage I do not qualify for for educational assistance from many gov agencies, and I own a car so that consider assests. I am at my wits end for finding help for someone on the way to trying to make a better life.

At age three--the parents are blamed if their son is unruly in public.

At age seven--the parents are blamed if their daughter pushes a girl in school.

At age twelve--the parents are blamed if their son is bullying other kids.

At age sixteen--the parents are blamed if their daughter gets pregnant.

So my question is this when do we stop blaming parents and why is it that parents are always to blame? Is there a situation where the parents aren't to blame? If the parents are to blame all through a child's life--when they go into adulthood are they still to blame?

She sees a dentist regulary, I have tried EVERYTHING! I get alot of complaints from close friends, family, teachers about her breath. It is almost unbearable for me to do her hair, have her ride in the car, or speak to me b/c it stinks bad. I don't want to damage her, she is only nine years old and had this problem for as long as I can remember. I have her scheduled for a doctors appt this week for her annual physical how can I tell the doctor about this problem in front of her w/o embarrassing her? How can I stop her breath from being so stinky in the mean time?

After 6years of absence from our sons life his father decieded to finally try to be a part of his life actively. Previously he was mad b/c he was made to pay child support and they put him through jail to get it out of him. After spending the last two years in my son's life my ex got mad ,called me ,and to my face gave me the ultimatematium to stop seeking child support or he wants nothing to do our son anymore. My ex hung up in my face, and later changed his phone number. I did nothing to provoke him but I get tired of the constant verbal abuse and told myself this is the last time. Meanwhile my son has been asking why has hs dad not called, why is he no longer going to dads (he gets him weekends, holidays, etc).My son constantly reminices about going to dads or plans events they can do together and asks to call him. What should I tell him w/o damaging him, and explaing why dad does not return his calls and proably won't.

Why is this? Are they singling him out somehow? He is very sweet and sensitive, very quiet and gentle, always the one to give a drink cup to a crying sibling or try to make them smile somehow. Anyone else have this happen where the youngest is not the "runt" of the family? What causes this?

She is 8. She started this about 2 months ago saying she didn't want to sleep in her own bed, she didn't want to sleep alone anymore. She is an only child.

On the rare ocassion she does actually fall asleep in her own bed, she ends up in mine at some point during the night.

I have tried threatening her, rewarding her, bribing her - nothing works.

Any ideas?

My 7 year old son went through a very rebellious period last year.
I tried all the usual Supernanny 'time out' things without success and even smacked him with my hand - which he just laughed at.
But when I spanked his bottom with my slipper he took notice and behaved. Now I have a 'magic slipper' - If he's naughty I just take it off and show it to him and he behaves! But I'm reading everywhere that it's wrong to spank with anything other than your hand. Question is, should I give this excellent deterrent up for the sake of political correctness?

I'd like to request no snarky responses. Constructive Crit is by all means welcome but please no mean-ness. My daughter's father lives with us and is a part of our family unit. However I feel that he never sees her or participates with her. He works long days but most of it from home. If he's home working he won't even say hi to her most days. On weekends we go on outings or to relative's homes but it usually ends up with me running after our daughter while he does whatever he wants, just in a different setting. He loves her I know but is there any way I can get him to interact more without seeming to imply that he doesn't care? Please be constuctive but nice as well.
