She sees a dentist regulary, I have tried EVERYTHING! I get alot of complaints from close friends, family, teachers about her breath. It is almost unbearable for me to do her hair, have her ride in the car, or speak to me b/c it stinks bad. I don't want to damage her, she is only nine years old and had this problem for as long as I can remember. I have her scheduled for a doctors appt this week for her annual physical how can I tell the doctor about this problem in front of her w/o embarrassing her? How can I stop her breath from being so stinky in the mean time?

Make sure she is on a regular brushing and flossing program. She should be brushing AT LEAST twice per day for two minutes. The night before going to bed is the most important, since that is when the bacterial lay stagnant in the mouth, multiply and cause the most destruction.

Also, flossing is very important. Flossing daily should also be completed. Make sure she is brushing her tongue. Her tongue should be nice and bright pink and not white colored. White signifies bacteria, which leads to bad breath.

You may also consider getting a tongue scraper and also a mouth rinse such as Listerine or Crest Pro Health (which is alcohol free and may be easier for her to use, since it does not burn/tingle).

Hope this helps! Good luck!

WOW sometimes people with bad breath have stomach, nasal, sinus problems that is the underlying factor, just bring it up to your docot that you are concerned about her as she has bad breath, and you have tried many times to help her with this but nothing seems to work. I mean she is nine, you should be able to sit down with her and tell you you are gonna talk to the doctor about her breath in case there is a greater health concern, and oh ya if she is using childrens toothpaste move on and use adult

I agree, my daughter had horrible breath too, it was her sinuses, her adnoids were literally rotting (per the surgeon) from having so many ear infections, the fluid couldnt drain. I can always tell when my husband is having sinus / allergy issues, his breath stinks too. Write a short note and hand it to the doctor or ask the nurse to give it to the Dr before he comes in if you are concerned about embarassing your daughter.

Your daughter is more advantageous than likely a mouth breather. Her mouth is probable getting very dry via-out the nighttime and also in the day if she is a mouth breather, this motives undesirable breath. drugs may reason dry mouth. Is she congested? Have sinus/hypersensitivity issues? All of those play a aspect. pay interest throughout nap time, does she sleep consisting of her mouth open? solid success, my son's a similar way.

My daughter had the same problem, the doctor found that she had bad tonsils, does she get a low grade fever sometimes? She may need to have her tonsils taken out. In the meantime, I got my child mouthwash (the kid kind) doesn't taste horrible, during school hours I gave her tic tacs to suck on also when she brushes her teeth make sure she brushes her tongue.I hope this helps.

It sounds like she needs a major diet change. Bad breath usually starts in th stomach. I would definitely address it with the doctor/nurse out of her earshot.

do tell the Dr because the bad breath could suggest a medical problem for the Dr to pay attention to. Give her gum, mints, etc to help with the problem. take care

The other day I came across this rare medical condition which causes bad breath. It's called Trimethylaminuria. Maybe you could read up on it?
