There's a highchair at the very swanky children's resale shop near my home that I really like. Are highchairs one of the items that can safely be used secondhand?

Hi, when my 17 m/o wants something she screams a really high pitched scream and kind of grunts also. I know that she cant communicate with me to let me know what she wants, but it is driving me insane. Even in the car if she drops something she screams and points what is the best way to handle this? Should I ignore the behavior (which is really hard) or what do I do? She does it constantly until she gets what she wants followed by whining. HELP!

Every since I found out I was pregnant I seem to have done nothing but cry ! My first three months I had terrible growing pains which were like period pains from hell, morning sickness was terrible, constipation was and is even worse, I had spotted 3 timees in my first 3 months , all was ok in the end but still very anxious times. You name it I have had it. I am now in my 21 weeks and have my 2nd scan tomorrow. I just want to enjoy being pregnant, and as plus sized mom to be, I am not even showing and noone can really tell that I am pregnant anyway, so I feel cheated ! I am finding maternity clothes for a size 26 impossible to find ! My poor fella has put up with so much, I just want to laugh and smile and not feel so anxious about everything ! I feel like I have lost myself somewhere in all this and would like to come back ! No one ever tells you that pregnancy can be hard !

My 18 month old daughter hardly speaks. She knows very few words and rarely uses them. She has a three year old sister that does the better part of her speaking for her. Sometimes, though, my 18 month old will burst out into uncontrollable laughter for no apparent reason. Is she just a funny child? Imagining funny things?? Or could this mean something else?

He can't name his colors. I've tried teaching him just as I did with my daughter. My daughter is now 6, she knew her colors when she was two. My son can't count either, though just recently he knows when there are 2 of something. But it's his not knowing colors that I am worried about. He'll be three on December 2nd. Is it possible he is color blind? I know all children are different and learn at different rates, but this has really been bothering me. His well-child checkup isn't until December but I'd like some insight before then. What's the normal age for a child to recognize and remember colors???

My husband has always wanted our son to play football. He has had a football in his hands ever since he was born. My son played pee wee ball, middle school ball and just this year tried our for the high school football team. He didn't make it. My husband because so outraged with our son that he beat him with our personal collection of whips and chains. He says that he is going to make a man out of him and get him on that team next year so that our son can make it into the NFL. It has always been my husbands dream to have his son in the NFL and he is willing to do whatever it takes to make him tough enough to make it. I don't like my son getting beat, especially with our whips and chains but I dont want him to be soft either. Should I try talking to my husband or keep my mouth shut before I get his with the whips and chains as well?? Help please!

What would you do if your husband wouldn't tell his mother that you were pregnant? This is our fourth baby, so yeah the excitement is a little less than the first, once the baby gets here it'll be different of course :) But, we're staying with his parents right now because our youngest daughter is undergoing medical treatments at Texas Children's Hospital and our ins. only pays 80% so that leaves us with the rest and that's well over 20 grand. Anyway, we live there and it's obvious, I'm 12.5 weeks and she knows but he will not come out and say something. I'm so angry and hurt I could scream! Do I have a right to be? Isn't it common courtest to tell her since we are living there for the moment? He's told other people, but not ONE person in his family. Why could that be?

I'm sure alot of parents go thru this, however I do not know how to cope sometimes. She drives me nuts. She's often mean to her three year old brother and talks like a baby to him when I've told her time and again he is learning to talk still and she needs to speak correctly, and then she has him say words like "poopy" which aggravates me more. She mouths off to me, doesn't listen. I don't spank but I do send her to her room when she gets out of control which usually ends with her telling me no she doesn't have to. Then she'll scream she hates me and run off. I've tried talking to her about it. I don't know what else to do, I don't think I can send her to her room for the entire day, and I don't think I can send her to bed without dinner. She does listen to my boyfriend though, and my ex-husband (her father) never disciplines her and never has since she was born. So I know she CAN listen and behave, but how do I get her to behave for ME?

I’ve reconnected with a friend after several years. When I met her I was a tenant in the large house she and her husband owned. She was a step-mom to 4 kids and none of her own. She an interesting approach to step-parenting. She didn’t follow the conventional wisdom that says for the step-parent to for example, “always remain loving, open, accepting and there for them even when they act out with hostility and hatred towards you b/c you are an easy target for their rage over parents breaking up.” In fact she did just the OPPOSITE! If teen step-son was sarcastic and disdainful of her she did the same to HIM! If step daughter ignored her she would return the favor and IGNORE the 13 yr old right BACK! And so on. Now kids are all successful adults and out of the house. They seem to LOVE her more than their natural parents! She gets calls, gifts, accolades, etc. on constant basis. Is this just some weird fluke or does she have it right and the "experts" have it wrong about how to step-parent?
