This is a interesting question.There are no standard ways.Each kid has a different enviorment when growing up.One thing is that age 1 to 7 is very important.The kid absorbs whatever u teach them.Whatever effort u put till the age of 12 pays of.You can mould the kid any way u want.But you need to spend time with the kid which is allways not possible..
For example take the case of Serena sisters or any of the kids coming tops in contests.You can be sure that there is a parent looming behind.The lead the kid gets at this stage cotinues in life.

Lead by example. If you want a poilte and respectful child, be polite and respectful. Make sure he understands your values and why they are important to you. A child will learn self-respect by being respected. A child that respects himself will respect others.
Financial security is necessary but not always possible. Whichever is your situation the child should be raised to live within or below his means. Teach him to appreciate all that he has - he will never be happy by always wanting more.
And last but most important - Love him!
