My 5 year old swallowed a rubber band at preschool today. They are not sure if it was a latex band or one that girls put in their hair. Do you think this is something to worry about?

She use to gobble up food and really enjoy 3 meals a day. All of a sudden she shakes her head no at almost everything I offer her. I've read and heard this is normal for her age...but come on she's got to be hungry. She drinks milk and water just fine...nibbles on crackers and will occasionally eat an egg for breakfast. Other than that, it's pretty much no no no to everything else.

Any moms or dads out there have any tips or tricks to offer up? Thanks!

My son was diagnosed with congential trigger thumb when he was appx 13 months old. We noticed that his thumb on his left hand was locked in a bent position and would not straighten out no matter what you tried. This never caused him any pain nor did it bother him at all. We tried physical therapy and it did not work. Finally we had to schedule surgery to fix it. A week before the surgery we noticed that his other thumb was doing the same thing. So, the doctor performed the surgery on both thumbs. The surgery took place around March of this year and he has had absolutely no problems with it at all. (Thank God!). It was a very small incision on his hand and it was over pretty quickly. My question is are there any other parents out there who have dealt with this same problem? My doctor advised that he has seen the condition in adults but that it is very rare in children and they don't know why it happens.

I really hate it when people think that just because I had a baby at 17 that Im either; broke and on welfare, a dropout, lazy, and alone, and they always blame the girl. For one thing as soon as I found out I was pregnant I didnt mope around...I got into work study immediately and saved alot of money, also I am in the top of my class even with my daughter Im doing better in school than people who hardly have any responsibility. And my baby's daddy is still around I dont have to beg him to come see her or help me raise her. And I think people know that 'natural' conception takes more than one person to do, so why am I always looked down upon and not my bf, when he was f**king me too? I'll admit it is hard, but I never think of my baby as an accident; I was meant to have her. And another thing...why do people assume that b/c Im young that Im a bad mother...yes I make mistakes but so does every other parent Im tired of folks looking down on me just b/c Im not married or out of high school

take my children to events if they are in her care? My children attend boy an girl scouts and the meetings sometimes fall on nights that they are in her care. Would it be too pushy to ask her to take them to the meetings at 6:30 pm - 7:45pm. I leave work to pick my children up from her at 7:30pm. The sitter lives around the block from where the meetings are held, and she will still have my two year old in her possesion. My sitter is also about 66 yrs old and she admitted to driving the kids to the park and letting the kids play while she watches (and reads her books) from the car. I worry b/c my older kids might be ok, but my two yr old needs direct supervision. Also b/c of her age she dosen't help the kids w homework (she claims she isn't that smart) and when i get home it is usually too late to do homework and my kids school is strict about hm work so I end up doing the work so my kids won't get in trouble.

I see all these questions asked about medical situations with an infant. There are also a lot of "Why can't I get pregnant?". What I want to know, is it really that difficult to make a visit to a doctor? Hell a phone call is even easier. It also scares me to know that some of the mothers on here take advice about medical situations. Don't these women realise that they may be talking to someone who has told them the WRONG dosage of medication to give a child? So, for MEDICAL questions, who's better to ask; a doctor or a yahoo answers participant?

I'm getting semi-sharp pains..Could it be from the baby moving into position, or just stretching? I know this is a stupid question and I should probably ask my doctor, but unfortunately, he's on vacation for another week. Lovely, huh? I'm not going to stress myself out over it, though, when it could be gas or something..but I was just wondering..all of you at 37 weeks..did you get aches and pains?

I'm so worried because I had a miscarriage 6 months ago. I don't have any bleeding or cramping, but my lower back started hurting really bad today. Is this normal? Please tell me if you've had the same - please DONT tell me "go to the doctor." I know that, thanks. It's not as severe as when I had a miscarriage but it does hurt pretty bad! I am only 4 weeks pregnant.

Yesterday, my husband and I were told we were having a boy! Okay, so now we need a name.... here is the main problem, I want something that is a "normal" name, my husband wants something unique. The middle name will be Mitchell because that is a family tradition. Any ideas on a first name?

My 4 1/2 year old descovered that she is afraid of skeletons due to the halloween decorations. She gives a little eeeeek and a shutter then runs away. I'm not sure if she is really afraid or just having fun being afraid (if you know what I mean). Tonight I told her about the skeleton under our skin. Now she keeps looking at her hand- and gives a grossed out look. Should I have not told her that?

I have already tried tabasco, no-bite, and similar products to no avail. I am not willing to pay hundreds of dollars for the device the dentist can put in.
