If you are set to be induced in the am I think they ask you to stop eating food by 6-8pm the night before. You are allowed to have clear liquids though. But ask your doctor just to be on the safe side.

I agree with a few of the answers above me. Induction can take forever - depends on the woman. I was induced and before I even left for the hospital (which I didn't know I was going to be induced) I hadn't ate. Then I had to wait 16 hours to eat - they wouldn't let me. And yet they wonder why my sugar levels went down so far, which I felt was a risk. So I would make sure you have at least a little bit in your stomach to hold you over!

being induced can take FOREVER. If I ever have to be induced again, I will be eating a steak dinner on the way to the hospital. I was in labor for 36 hours with my first child and 26 with my secdon. I was induced both times. That is way too long to go without food for me.

The only reason not to eat would be if they had to give you Anesthesia in the case of an emergency c-section -- and if you keep it light -- but Nutritious -- this shouldn't be an issue, even if that had to happen. I went to a light breakfast before I found out that they were going to do a c-section on me later that afternoon. I certainly didn't have 12 hours of fasting. I also didn't go "under" for the c-section.

However, the magnesium sulfate they gave me for my high blood pressure (toxemia in the last 48 hours), did reek havoc, and I was ill for awhile after everything was over.

You need to know what your risks are, and what your doctor is comfortable with. Juice bars are an alternative if you are told not to eat at all. Yogurt and low-sodium broth, too.

Unless the doctor tells you otherwise, then I would definitley eat right before you go in. I was induced with my second son and I was only in labor for an hour before I had him, and I didnt get to eat before, but by the time they are done with everything else and I actually got to eat I was starving.

I didn't think you had to stop eating. I know that my Dr told me to eat a hardy breakfast before coming in to be induced. My husband and I when out to breakfast at 6am, and we were at the hospital by 7am. I was fine. God, I couldn't imagine not eating. I would have killed someone. lol

My doctor told me I could eat up until she started hooking me up to the monitors. If you are having a vaginal birth, the only reason they do not want you to eat is because you may poop during the pushes.

Once I started being induced it took about 12 hrs before my son was born.

I think after midnight if told not to eat. Honestly though what would happen? I was induced and went to breakfast on my way to the hospital. They never told me not to eat. And my first I went into labor at an ice cream parlor. I finished it. Unless you have scheduled surgery I think you can eat.

You can still be eating while you are walking in to the hospital, at least I was. When I called to see if they were ready for me to come in they told me to get something to eat right before I came in. Trust me you will need the energy, because they usually can't give you anything but popsicles, juice, and ice chips once you get there.
