Dora is pretty annoying but I guess it does actually have a learning quality to it. But NEVER EVER let your child watch Caillou!! It's a cartoon about a four year old kid and he is sssssssoooooo whiny!!! And it teaches your child nothing!! (Except how to whine!!)

My son is 15 months and he really likes watching Handy Manny and Higglytown Heroes, both on Disney. He also likes Blues Clues and the Backyardigans, both on Nick. The Noggin channel is awesome for kids. All the shows that come on there teach in some way. We just started getting the channel through our satellite. Before we had digital cable and didn't get it. Some shows that come on there are Franklin, Dora, Blue, etc.
The shows that I absolutely CANNOT stand are The Wiggles (Disney) and the Upside Down Show (Noggin). My son is not allowed to watch the Wiggles at all. My husband and I both agree that some of the dances they do on there are "suggestive." Which I understand children don't see that, but we do, so we know it is there. The Upside Down Show just doesn't make sense to me. They make crazy noises that drive me crazy. I don't like the Wonder Pets either (Nick) because one episode I watched was talking about a dog having to go "pee-pee" and that just struck me the wrong way.
My son doesn't watch too much TV tho. I think it is okay in moderation, but definitely not a lot for someone his age.

I hate to be the dooms day person, but I am a recently retired elem teacher and have been doing some research on children under the age of 2 watching TV. They are finding it actually causes "brain damage" as it keeps them from learning other things their brain is needing to learn AND CAN ONLY LEARN DURING A VERY SPECIFIC PERIOD. For example, if a baby ages 0-6 mo. is not visually stimulated, it is a proven fact that his eye sight will NEVER BE NORMAL. (short of God's miracles). So TV interferes in a great way. I won best answer on how much TV should children watch and basically said none because of its addictive value in today's society. Sounds harsh, but if you truely want what is best for your child do your own online research.

Alot of good shows for young children starting to watch T.V. would be shows like Dora the Explorer (teaches spanish) Little Einsteins... Higglytown Heroes...Mostly the shows that are on NickJr or Toonhouse Disney...They are educational yet age appropriate and shows that most little children would love to watch !!

I refuse to let my kids watch anything that does not teach them anything. Spongebob is forbidden in my house. They love Dora, my three year old can count to ten in Spanish. They like Between the Lions which helps them learn to read. Of course Mr. Rogers because it takes me back to my childhood. They also like Clifford the Great Bid Dog, because we have a golden retriever, so they think it's about him. But just monitor what your kids watch, and limit the use.

Thank you, Diamond Diana!! The Boo-Bah's is absolutely the most pointless, mind-numbing, brain-cell-destroying, stupid awful, annoying show I have ever had the bad luck to stumble upon one day. I don't let my kids watch more than a half-hour a day anyway, but there are a lot of pretty cute things that I let them watch when they do. It's the one show that I REFUSE to let my children watch.

My 2 year old loves the Doodlebops which drive me nuts. I just use that time to do something else. Most of the other stuff I didn't like, I've managed to get my kids to forget about - for example, The Wonderpets. I've never let my kids watch Barney - he just drives me insane. I've told them that we don't get Barney on our TV. I've refused to check out Barney videos or books at the library.

Baby Einstien.
Dora the Explorer and Diego the Explorer is good. Seaseme Street is always a good one. The Wiggles and the Teletubbies aren't bad either..
What I can't stand is Barney, The Doodle-Bops, and Spongebob Squarepants. They drive me up the wall.

Oh man I hate Dora the Explorer and Go Diego Go. Don't know why, but I do, and have never encouraged my kids to watch it.
I like Sesame Street, and Little Einstein and Baby Einstein. That's about it for me!
