I think this article highlights what is the true threat to freedom...political repression. Our freedoms are defended everyday by people like him who stand up and say no to insanity. They are defended every day by defense attornies and judges(hopefully). Our soldiers (indeed most soldiers in history)have historically been used to enforce our overseas markets and resources security and their retention/obtention. Thus military service can be seen as morally problematic on more than one level. Nuremburg highlighted that in a civilized world the individual can and should defy immoral or illegal orders or face consequences in a criminal court (if you are on losing side anyway). Therefore it seems incumbent on moral and rational people to help those seeking to act according to their conscience to do so. This question will be more important when the draft is reinstated. O Canada ....of thee I sing

My sister was at a bad time in her life and signed up for the army reserves with pretty much no other options. She was told she had to be sworn in twice. Well she went through with the first swearing in. Then months went by and she heard nothing from her recruiter.
She has since moved back in with my mother and has graduated from high school She is 18 now and has been accepted to several college universities. She has her life back on track now and then today her recruiter calls her up and says he is picking her up tomorrow!
She was never sworn in for the second time....he told her today that whoever told her that did not know what they were talking about. She has no choice. He says if she backs out they will place her under dishonorable discharge and that it will "haunt her for the rest of her life" Is there anyway she can get out of this??

A friend says i am being selfish for wanting to take a cruise in December and then enlisting instead of enlisting ASAP. I figure this may the last time I ever get to take a cruise and it would be a fun memory before the rigors of basic. I also wanted to spend a final Christmas with my family.
What do you ppl think? Is it selfish not to go ahead and enlist now?

I am getting ready to get stationed in Korea again. by the time I get back she will be 9 yrs old. I have had 2 full years with her since she has been alive. So what I am trying to say is when it is time to get out of the service after 13 yrs should i do it, It would be a waste if I got out don't you think!

2007-06-13 13:31:38 · 22 answers · asked by Anonymous

don't get me wrong, if you have the desire to enlist and serve our country, your a hero and a great asset to society and freedom.

But personally I can't see why an 18 year old kid right out of high school would join the military. I mean you get sent off from everyone you love, are surronded by 99% males (and you can't join if your gay, so there's no advantage to this either way)
and you don't get to experiance all the partying and general beligerent drunkenness of college.

Why would a young man in today's world of alcohol, sex, and general fun choose to give up a set number of years of their life for the military?

If you had served in the military, what drove you to do it?

First and foremost, SUPPORT OUR TROOPS!! God bless them, and I pray for their safe return.

However, I ask myself what Washington is doing about determining and acting on a solid extraction plan for Brother George's Iraq War mess.

When can we expect to see improvements Iraq?

What's the military's goal over there any more?

What can I do as a citizen to stop fruitless war spending?

Ok we were at a funeral (my grandfather), 2 soldiers were there to mourn him. Once the funeral was over we greeted them. The soldiers shook hands with my dad, my uncles, and my boy cousins. They also shook hands with my aunt. However they did not, they actually refused to shake hands with my great aunt... my (as of now) late grandfather's sister. Is there some code thing or a specific reason that they could not shake her hand or were they too busy to notice that she offered it to them? I con-fuzzled. Any ideas would be of help. By the way... she was in no way repulsive and there was nothing that seemed wrong with her apperance.

He sends them out to fight and when they come back he spits them out and treats them like a burden to out country. Not only the current Iraq veterans but moreover the Vietnam Veterans from JFK's presidency.
This is a disgrace to the American people; this is a disgrace to President Kennedy. Bush is spitting in their faces, and living a wealthy life.
Bill Clinton once said: "I got away with the draft, thank God i didn't have to go to war, but then i sat down and thought about all the young men fighting for us in Veitnam; i thought of Veterans like John Kerry who put their country before thier lives"
Of course Clinton was young then, but it makes you want to think...think about all of those veterans like John Kerry fighting for the American people.
And now we watch Bush turn around and chew them out.
That's Kennedy he's chewing out; that's Kerry he's chewing out; Those are the AMERICAN PEOPLE !!!

God Bless the Troops

The group I belong to, Richmond Area Top 3 (RATIII) gave a pizza lunch at the VA hospital to for several severely injured young soldiers.

For one young Marine it was his second month in rehab. when we saw him last month he had not said a word since making it to Richmond McGuire VA Hospital.
One of the guys in our group is a Marine, when the young soldier was told our guy was a Marine, he looked him straight in the face and uttered his first words since being blown up by an IED. He said "OOOH AHH", and he tried to smile.

Today we had a couple of Marine Officers and a Marine Master Gunny Sargent went with us to visit these young Warriors. This young wounded Warrior, reached out and touched the Gunny and in a slurred voice, you could hardly understand, started to sing the Marine Hymn. It was so emotional seeing this severely wounded Marine sing the Marine Hymn together with his 3 brothers in arms. Several of us, including me had to turn away, you never lets these young brave men and women see you cry. They do not want pity, they just want respect and to be able to recover and return to their unit.

It was an unreal experience. It got me then and it is getting me again as I write this.
