Do they have regular dancing....like rap and crap or is it like ball room stuff?
What kind of dress?
Am I going to be bored out of my mind?

This is not a high school one. It's big one in Orlando at a resort.

The speeches will be boring, as are all after dinner speeches, it is the law. The dancing will be more sedate than what you find at most frat parties or night clubs, but you can have lots of fun if you make the effort.
As Deanne said, dress is strictly formal. Your escort will be in his best Mess Dress Uniform, with a black tie and all his decorations. You should be in a formal gown. But don't make an effort to show more skin than you cover.
And please, do not drink to excess and do not be rude to anyone, especially your escort's superior officers. You could seriously damage his career, and possibly ruin any relationship you have with him.
If you go with the right attitude, you will have lots of fun. If you have a bad attitude, your escort will wish he'd left you at home.

Like everyone one said it is a formal affair so usually its a long dress. The speeches are boring yes but the exerience is great. Don't get too drunk or if you know when you are drunk that you act silly then DON'T drink. Its a bkast if you know other spouses/dates there as usually you can sit and talk after dinner..... so make the most of it and have fun and relax. The music is ok nothing special they won't play the latest hits or anything.

The best way to put it is... It's like prom with speeches and dinner. It's better if you go with people you know. My husbands Navy and we went last year. Got there, took pictures, ate dinner, listen to people give speeches, then got drunk and danced for a while. I had fun....
Although I do have to agree with everyone else on that don't make a fool of yourself. You are representing the person your going with and will be in front of his higher ups/boss.

dried out chicken, tough beef, wilted green beans. Long boring speechifying.
depending on the tyope of event>.Ball versus Dining Out, for instance, there will be ceremonies and pomp and circumstance.
the band will play current stuff.

The ladies stand at the dance flooring awkwardly. The guys stand via the beverages and speak. The father and mother take photographs in their daughters time and again with their boyfriends. It's dull, do not pass.

they place mostly classic hits, you need to be wearing a formal dress, i worea floor length stapless black dress, you will be bored during the speeches and stuff, you will eat a very nice dinner, my advise don't drink too much, this is a big deal for your date!!! have a great time!!
