Basic is not as bad as you think. Watch Full Metal Jacket and prepare for that and it will seem like a kindergarten field trip. It is probably better to not try to learn any of the above listed stuff otherwise you might teach yourself bad habits. Just be prepared to listen, learn quickly and not get any sleep.

They'll fill you in on rank and how to address superiors things when you get there. Last I heard the 'Drills' are addressed simply as sargent.
The whole routine from day one to graduation is designed to break you down and build you back up as a soldier. (Sociologists call it a "radical resocialization".) Don't stress, just get through it one minute at a time. Do what you're told when you're told, and don't stand out. Millions have gotten through before you, so you know it can be done.
It doesn't hurt to start practicing push-ups, sit-ups, and running. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE GOOD RUNNING SHOES. Given the amount of running you do, you can not spend too much on a good set of running shoes. Try to break then in first. The most important part of running is the 'not quit' part of the training.
Your recruiter will give you information to study before you leave, though it is really not necessary. Knowing the name of rank insignia and your "general orders" is more than most people do before they go in.
The food is fairly good actually, if a bit on the bland side. Salt and pepper often help. "Care packages" from home are expected to be shared if possible. You might see if you can have some Tabasco sent to yourself.
They used to come into basic training and ask people to volunteer for airborne training (parachute school). If this sounds at all like something you might want to do volunteer. It opens doors for future schools/assignments and you tend to serve with a SLIGHTLY higher quality of soldier.
Pay attention in BRM (Basic Rifle Marksmanship). If you can get time on "the weaponeer" that they often have close to ranges, do it. It is a "video-game" that helps teach marksmanship. The drills tend to use it to bring the "no-go's" up to speed, but the tool really shines in honing advanced marksmen, (if the person running it knows what he is doing).
Good luck.

formation, drill, how to address a superior, etc, they'll teach you all that. you won't be the Gomer Pyle of your unit.
Living quarters.. Call them barracks. Quite spartan. Largeshowert rooms,10-15 will fit in at a time. Little privacy. Thesecret . Keep themclean. They are really hung upon that. They will be kept clean as an operating room. Make it easy for everybody, mess it up as little as possible.
Bed will be a cot, and you will learn to make it. You'll keep the blanket so tight a quarter will bounce off of it.
Food, plenty of it. If you ate thatmuch as a civilian, you'd gain a lot of sweight in no time. But in the army, you'll burn every calorie you take in. The food is good and plentiful. The rule is, takeall youwantbut eat all you take. The dining roomiscalledthe Mess Hall. And again, after every meal it is cleaned up to be spotless.Every meal. Everyday.
best way to get thru. Eyes open, mouth shut, do your best, and, above all, work as a team. Do that,yu;ll breeze through.
Give them a line of BS, you're doomed.
I found, the days dragged, but the weeks flew by. Come graduation, you'll feel like you're the best man in the entire Army. And that's how they want you to feel.
Just remember, millions before you made it. Millions after you will too. You'll be fine.
Good luck!.

Have to agree with Army Retired Guy. The only thing I could possibly add, would be to get in great shape. Run five miles a day while singing out loud, do 100 push ups and sit ups in under 2 minutes and learn to do pull ups single handed without kipping. Again, 100 in less then 2 minutes. I don't really know about the Army, but that is considered minimal in the Marine Corps.

first of all its only called boot camp for maries, its basic training soldier. The food is pretty much your basic cafateria food, not that you have time to eat it. The barracks will just be a large room with about 30 bunkbeds around the perimeter of the room and a set of wall lockers between each bunk. Shows are pretty basic locker room shows, bathrooms are pretty much normal locker room bath rooms. Adress the drill sgt., as drill sgt. "last name"
Its been a few years since I went through so I can't tell u what to expect. Just hope you don't go to fort benning

Call a Drill sergent a drill sergent. Say drill sergent before and after you speak to him. When you enlist just bring the nessary thing. Acouple pares of civilian cloths and some shower shoes personle hygene kit and you already need to have a checking account set up so when you improcess the army can diret deposit your money to your account. other than that always volenteer for things and always be the first one where ever you go. Be 10 minutes early to ever apointed place of duty! And always show respect. you'll do just fine!

No matter what you are going to hate it the first few weeks but after that you get use to all the yelling and it won't even bother you
Learn the ranks, always refer to your drill Sergeant as drill Sergeant, and don't worry because everything you do is going to be wrong even if your right
You get a twin bed and a regular sized locker....Hope you like to take group showers!
You don't get much time to eat.
Don't fall asleep during fire watch
when you do the gas chamber thing and they make you take off you mask just take a deep breath and suck it up, it if you don't you will have to stay in twice as long

Believe your recruiter should have some handouts for you. General orders, rank structure, Physical training exercises, learn those few basic things and you'll be in good shape. Take 2 sets of civilian clothes, they are going to take them away from you and store them. pack only toiletries, some soap, tooth brush and such. You will be taken shopping when your in the receptions station for all the items you need. Have a positive attitude, and go get em champ.

Uncle Al is right, when it comes to training the USMC is the way to go, it may be hard but the drill instructors Want You To Survive, just know when they are screwing with you it all has a purpose. Last i heard you can call your relatives via cell phone during basic, which is odd, and you also have all you can eat buffets and at least 8 hours of sleep. just remember, what you put into it you get out of it, and never give up, it sounds cliche but hey who cares go for it.
