Typically when war casualties are high, new troopers are sent directly from training to battle.

In Vietnam during the battle for the city of Hue, hundreds of American soldiers were killed. To continue the fight, new recruits were sent from training directly into the battle for Hue. Many died their first day.

If the need for replacements is low, you could be assigned anywhere in the world. It just depends on where your military organization needs you.

You seem perfect for the army! :]
You should definitely join.
And they could send you anywhere, but most likely somewhere where they need (or think they need) a lot of people which would be Afghanistan or Iraq like you said. Good luck!

No matter what they say when you join up,not matter
what position,training,location they promise...they
are lying. I love the military and think it's a noble
profession. I just know that to meet recruiting goals,
they promise the Earth but once you sign your name
on that dotted line, they will do with you as they please.

Britain is still helping Bush kill Iraqi men, women and children. Stay home, get an education and don't break your families hearts by dying is an illegal, immoral war in a place called Iraq.
