If I where to steal a large amount of money in the state of Texas, like over a million dollars, and flee to a foreign country, how long would it be utill statue of limitations takes effect and I can't be charged with the crime? Does it make a difference if I am a minor? Which country would be the best to flee to?

I was driving down a street at normal speed and hit a huge part of the road that was missing cement. It looked like someone had just drilled about ten inches of the cement off the road. I did not see it coming because it was night and the road was poorly lit. There were no signs at all and it went across the entire road. My car took a beating on this dip. Can I take legal action against the city if there is damage to my vehicle? Or how can I figure this out? It is in Kansas, if that matters.

Its extreme poverty and misery that drives most women or children into abusing their own body - their last line of defence. Why then are the governments and corporates hiding this aspect and promoting AIDS awareness, as if its a neutral act or a mistake ?

For the last 5 or 6 years a girl has been telling people in my small community of 65k people that I raped her - but I did no such thing. Well recently, I was been asked to leave a restaurant where she works, the server telling me explicitly that it was at the request of the person in question. I was there attending a meeting with an academic group I am involved in at university. So not only has there been personal insult among mutual friends and other peers, now this is starting to impact my "professional" life as a student. This is just the latest transgression of a whole history of malicious behavior on her part, towards me and also my sister.

As a student my funds are limited, but on the other hand, my life in my hometown has become almost unlivable. If I were to pursue a case of defamation of character/slander, what would be my risk of repercussion? Does having no money mean that I cannot live comfortably, free from these lies? What should I do?

My boyfriend was charged with this crime. He took the money for the meth but afterwards decided he did not want to go thru with it. He never had the meth on him. The other guy was to call the next day so he could give the money back but he never did. On feb 14, 2007 a warrant was served from November 22, 2006.

I live in a small neighborhood and the lot next to me is being turned into a gas station. I am really worried about this b/c our city council had a private meeting on the matter. The decision was made without the neighboring people. The gas pumps literally are on the other side of our privacy fence. I consider that unsafe for my children when playing in the backyard and smelling the fumes constantly and then the garbage will attract rats and roaches. How can they build something this close to our house without our input? Please if anyone knows anything to help I would greatly appreicate it for the safety of my children and neighorhood kids.

Since I was very young, I've always wanted to adopt a girl from one of the countries that preferred to have boys instead of girls.
We will be waiting a few years before seriously looking into this, but would this be difficult? I wouldn't be opposed to adopting from the US either, in that case, instead of a baby I'd prefer to have an older child between the ages of 2 and 8.
How difficult would these options be?

Ok to make this short and sweet , Monday i'm going to apply for a security guard job and they are required to make anyone submit to a criminal check . I've got a couple things that might hinder it , such as 8 days in another state's prison for accesory to theft as i was the owner and driver of the car . then some cigs about 10 yrs ago ,the accesory thing has since passed .Any suggestions?serious ones only please.

American Law is Irrelevant to English law, and therefore incorrect, they are two totally different subjects with two totally different sets of rules.

hubby and i work at the same office and it is sometimes difficult to arrange time off together. there is also a 14 hour drive one way to appear at this trial. is there a better way than just making the request by mailing a letter?? It is a complete shock to us that we are being sued by this person and truly we do not believe there is any validity to this case. Thanks

Here's a couple of questions I need help with

The police in Midvale, Texas receive an anonymous phone call to watch out for a lime green Honda Civic with a dented front bumper. The anonymous caller says the Civic is transporting contraband narcotics hidden in the trunk. Officer Orville sees such a car passing through town. Does Orville have probable cause to stop the car and search the trunk??

Ratt is an informant who reports on criminal activity to Detective Sergeant Cuff. Ratt has given reliable and credible information several times which led to the lawful seizure of evidence and arrest of suspects.
Ratt phones Cuff and says, "I know who committed the jewelry store robbery two days ago. It was Dillinger. We were all playing cards at his place and he started bragging and showed us the stolen jewels."
A. Cuff cannot get a warrant since the information is uncorrborated
B. Cuff can get a warrant since he has probably cause

If someone broke into your house shot you. He is about to finish you off, but you are able to pulled a concealed weapon out and kill him in the nick of time. You call for help, and you get arrested and sentenced to death for murder, should you be put to death?
