OK so here's the deal: My parents are divorced with a no-contact order. They've been divorced for over 3 years. My father was paying child support with no problems until just recently. The system has been updated so that he is no longer supposed to pay her directly, it's supposed to be taken from his paycheck and given to the state, and the state is supposed to pay her the child support. (To ensure that he's paying, and to make sure they're keeping the no-contact order, I guess). That court decision was made in October. Ever since then, she hasn't been receiving child support payments. Any idea what might be going on? I really need to know because she's trying to get me to move back in with her to help support the family, as she is unable to provide enough income herself. (She's working part time, going to college, and has 6 kids besides me). Needless to say, I really don't want to do that, but I feel really bad about the situation. Help!

In light of another shooting by cops, and the fact that I always hear politicians in the US,etc to talk about following the law, with great reverance. I just curious, specially from the early days of this nation, has the law ever been in the side of the powerless, immigrants, poor, minoritites, etc. Would that be a never, few times sometimes, all the time or always.

i heard a fact once that if alcohol was discovered today, it would be put as an A class drug, it kills millions of people a year, and yet it is legal for an 18 year old to drink.

Cars kill many many people, and if any other form of transport had that many casualities they would be banned/ abandoned!

dont get me wrong, i drink and drive (not at the same time) but i was just wondering, is there a reason that these things are acceptable?

Besides the sex offenders, i mean. Why are these people ever let out of jail? Most of the time, they just commit another crime?

And who cares if they are rehabilitated? One less ex-con in this world is bad enough already. We kill millions of babies every year, why not a few criminals?

--One more thing. This would not, of course, be imposed on, say, a 20 y/o having consentual sex with a 16 y/o. That should still be penalized, but not with the death penalty. Even I know that would be going too far!

I have no problems with laws that protect me from others (for example, drunk driving laws), but why does the government feel it needs to protect me from me? For example, why do they pass laws that say I need to wear a seat belt? I do anyway, but not because it is the law. And now New York is banning restaurants from using trans-fat. Instead, why not make the restaurants tell you what foods are cooked in trans-fats and let the consumer decide?

the government would bring in alot more money......there could be smoke shops instead of bars and they could make laws like they do for alcohol such as no driving under the influence and age restriction.......so why not?

My good friend has been sleeping with his ex-girlfriend now for the past couple of weeks. He is 28 and has just left for the Military. His ex-girlfriend has 2 children, 1 son that is 7 from a previous long term relationship, another daughter who is about 8 months old whom she had with her current boyfriend (possibly her fiance'), who is unfortunately in prison till february serving time for a series of traffic violations/violation of probation (I dunno something not too serious-what I mean is he didn't commit any felonies). This woman has just found out that she is pregnant with my friends baby. What would you do if you were her? or what would be the best (morally ethical) solution to this? or My wife is friends with this woman, What kind of advice would you give her if you were my wife?

also, I think that she has every intention to stay with her current boyfriend. (who I'd like to add is really a nice guy who cares for her)

Roomie's not paying rent, or bills, he's in denial about his 30day notice? How do I get my key and parking pass back, and him out after I gave 30 day notice, thinks he's staying? He ruined my finances by my covering Nov. $200.shortage, plus utilities; All of Dec rent of $1050., and all utilities paid no late fees. He's not on lease. Paid no security deposit as agreed he would. Did not pay for parking pass key either. While he initially agreed paying $600 and 2 payments of 150 for security deposit to move in, only paid $400. Doesn't see why he can' 'just continue to pay rent'? a master at passive aggression or just nuts. I'm moving on Dec.30 I'm concerned he'll keep come back. What kind of legal preparation can I make?

OXYCONTIN - LEGAL
Hows about some good ol' speed. They sell this crap to families like it's candy.
RITALIN - LEGAL
How about they get drunk and be too incoherant to know you're talking to them?
ALCOHOL - LEGAL
Spraypaint seems like a cheap alternative, right?
SPRAYPAINT - LEGAL
Either that or they can just buy a bottle of cough syrup?
DXM - LEGAL
Dramamine is an over the counter car sickness medication that knocks off your cerebrum balance causing temporary and possible long term insanity. One of the worse drugs that is an OTC in my opinion. If you never heard of kids getting high off this I would suggest you look it up.
DRAMAMINE - LEGAL
Wonderful death rates because of these drugs.
Fact is the drugs are there and people are going to get high no matter what. Many teenagers will say they move on to alternative methods of getting high if they cannot get alcohol or marijuana.

Now, to be fair, I want to say ahead of time that this is a loaded question. But that's what we do in the politics section.

I've always been curious how people justify "the seperation of church and state" calling it constitutional, simply because Thomas Jefferson ambiguously mentions it in a letter to someone. This claim is even more questionable when you consider certain phrases in the founding documents such as "that we are endowed by our Creator" and the fact that the date on the Constitution contained "the Year of Our Lord". Yes, all British official documents contained this phrase, that's true, but if the founding fathers were really wanted to break all ties between church and state, wouldn't removing that dating convention be an obvious first step?

So why did they insert that clause in the first ammendment? Because British law had alternated between mandating Catholicism and Anglicanism several times, and the founding fathers knew well the death and misery this caused.

My daughter is having some issues and the doctor has told her to keep it quiet from us, the parents. Is this something he/she can do? She is only 12 years old and she has told us about the doctors request. This practice, that has 7 doctors in it all rotate with all children for visits, is this normal? BTW it has nothing to do with pregnancy or the such..

I gave my resignation to my previous employer VERBALLY on Dec. 4, 2006. I gave them WRITTEN notice the day after (Dec.5, 2006). They decided to let me go on Dec. 5, 2006. Is that legal? Aren't they supposed to let you finish working your two weeks? I thought that was harsh since the Holidays are coming up, so that leaves me in kind of a bind.
