against. because whether you want to believe it or not, embryos are live beings and should not be tampered with and cast aside like trash. Stem cells from umbilical cord blood can be just as useful in a scientific setting. Let's use those until more research has been done.

for it becasue there is so much potential o be had in that field of science. sure there is going to be that one research group that wants to do those freak experiments. but the positives outwiegh the negatives. if you're in a car wreck and both of your lungs are severly damaged stem cell research would make it possible to grow lungs and make you healthy again. that is just one way out of many that stem cells could help you.

For it. It's a no-brainer in my opinion. If what the research indicates is good info, there would be no limit to the possible benefits. Ask someone living with MS or Lou Gerrig's or Parkinsons or a spinal injury, not to mention the impact on their families. I don't think anyone without first hand knowledge of such diseases should even have a say on the matter. Easy for them to say no, it's unethical, until they actually have to live it.

I haven't decided for myself the morality/immorality of it, but i am sure that any research, stem, adult or umbilical cord, should not be funded by government (taxpayers). The use of one person's resources, in this case income tax, for the benefit of another person is slavery only in a different degree from the kind we outlawed in the U.S. in the 19th century.

Against. It's a slippery slope. Women will get pregnant just to have an abortion to get money for the embryonic stem cells. (Don't think I'm exaggerating.....women are aborting because the baby is the "wrong" sex now). Also, there is no proof that embryonic stem cells help anything. There is hope for adult stem cells though.

For. I don't have any ethical problems with an embryo that has never been inside of a womb being used for science. especially when it will be destroyed anyway. and there are lots of promising things that can come from it.

For... what they are using are never going to become babies.. so why not use them for the benefit of our citizens and their health... there are always going to be moral issues raised on ways of treating and preventing diseases and disabilities...and sometimes the pros outweigh the cons
