the government would bring in alot more money......there could be smoke shops instead of bars and they could make laws like they do for alcohol such as no driving under the influence and age restriction.......so why not?

it sounds like a good idea, but the government would never do it. they've got the public convinced that it's a "drug" that's bad for you, they don't want to admit that they're wrong. not to mention, if it were legalized, pharmeceutical companies (which the government is obviously in bed with) would lose money on some types of perscriptions for cancer and glaucoma patients. nobody's going to go to the pharmacy and buy outrageously expensive perscriptions when they can easily just grow a few plants in their own backyard. unfortunately we'll have to continue to do things the old fashion way, at least we don't have a sales tax on it!

i believe it should not be legalized. although some people would tell you:. "Prices would go down. The crime factor would be gone. It would take the money out of the hands of criminal and put it in the hands of the government. It's not addictive, you can't overdose unlike alcohol, but the smoke does cause cancer. And that legalizing pot would probably benefit society, because you would be able to tax it. And if marijuana could be found in any regular store, then various gangs wouldn't be fighting over the drug sales either."

but:
i believe if it has the potential to do even half the damage that alcohol can, I say it has no place in our society.

Because any one can grow it if it legalized.... yes the gov. can sell it and tax it but once it legal i dont know bout you but there will be plants all over my house...lol.... for real thought there would be alot less money spent on the "war on drugs" and less tax money spent to keep people in jail and street crime would go down with out having to get it illegal why fight over territory....you would still have other drug related problems the weed one would be gone..... the problem is the govment cant keep complete sale controll of it and yes they would save moeny and in turn make more but they dont see it that way its the almighty bad gate way drug which is bull because if you had the nut to try weed chance's are you have the nut to try something else weather you smoked a little pot or not

This is a great question and there is no logical answer. I have seen people do much worse things under the influence of alcohol than pot. I heard a joke once that is appropriate to this topic... "A drunk runs a stop sign, a pothead waits for it to turn green." Which is worse?

because the government like big headlines so they can impress you with how well there war on drugs is going and since pot is so much easier to spot they waste most of the money looking for it besides politicians want the good stuff ( coke ) I agree lets legalize all of it if you want to be a drug addict we will support your right just get yourself sterilized so you won't have kids and apply for welfare and we give you all the drugs you can possibly use and maybe just a bit more just think about the savings !!

Mostly religious fanaticism is the reason. Also, it would be a lot harder to control than alcohol because it is so easy for individuals to grow on their own.

if people barely listen to the alcohol laws, they probably won't listen the marijuana laws.

It could. However, no politician in his or her right mind would back the legislation. Imagine how that could be used against him/her in re-election.

I think it should, but the lobby for it isn't strong enough yet.

Stoners aren't exactly a reliable voting base.
