Of course. prime example: O.J. Simpson. No exaggeration needed. Another one, Michael Jackson. Should I go On? Even though Martha got a sentence, but what hard time did she really do? How many times do Rodney Downey Jr. have to get arrested on drug charges before he gets a real sentence? How many times will Snoop go to court for drugs and weapon charges? Come on. Of course their fame helps them in their cases. Let it have been one of us committing these, or atleast suspected, they would not only throw the book at us, but put our asses under the jail.

Depends on the celebrity, the state, the county, the judge, the prosecutor, and several other factors. There are a bunch of celebrities that have been convicted and have received tougher sentences than the average Joe. So the answer is it depends!

Not necessarily drop the charges, but it is harder to convict. Not only can they usually afford better lawyers, but the jury may be more sympathetic to them.

See the OJ case.
