Immigration - June 2007

[Selected]: All categories Politics & Government Immigration

Our immigration department has records of all who came from Mexico legally, take that list and if the illegals you encounter are not on that list then they are here illegally.

This list should be sent to every police department in the nation.

It would only take a second to run a check through a computer.

Personally I think you can tell illegals from legals, somethings are obvious if you aren't blind.

Besides what difference does it make if some people get hurt feelings, protecting our country is worth all those poor little hurt feelings.

This is why I made my decison, I encourage the citizens who ask the question to read and give me your thoughts on it. I sleep better knowing that I stuck to my guns and made the right desicion. If this Bill did get passed could you sleep at night knowing what chaos the loop holes would have caused? Please I would to know.

If the immigration bill is truly dead, doesn't that mean that the status quo just continues the way it is? So why is it better to have millions of people here illegally than trying to do something about the problem? And to those who say we have to deport everyone, you should understand that that is simply not going to happen.

No matter how high a fence we build, don't we still let people into this country with tourist visas? Every day, foreigners land in airports all over the country, and drive across the borders with Mexico and Canada, all with valid tourist visas. Unless we want to outlaw tourism, it does not seem possible to prevent that. And my understanding is that about half of all illegal immigrants into this country got here simply by overstaying a valid tourist visa.

This might be a weird question but i would like to know what you think about Mexicans who believe to be the better then anyone, or anything in the world. But as some of you might know. Last sunday was the final Gold Cup Match in soccer. The U.S won against Mexico. After the game they didnt even show the whole Ceremony, and when they were interviewing Donovan they had comments written across the Gringo Team Won which I thought that was sooo rude. But anywho. As soon as the whole thing was over Mexican people started commenting on how the United States Sucks, And that Mexico Is always and always will be number 1. And to make matters worse they started making rude remarks about the central american countries, when they had nothing to do with their loss in the gold cup game. I remember one person saying that the Mexico was ontop of The United States Kinda Like saying that Mexico Rules The U.S. and some people whom even said that Mexicans Hate the U.S. Im Hispanic and Love it here in the U.S

Now that the worst piece of legislation in history is dead, we still have the problem. Illegals are still here. How will we identify who is and is not here legally? National ID'S were a hot topic about a year ago. Would you be in support of a national ID card with SS# DL#,fingerprints, iris scan and picture so that there could be no question as to who you are?
The only way illegals work the system is to steal all this info from someone. Or would you be ok with a more invasive method like a RFID chip under the skin? A barcode tattoo on your palm?

I know of many people who can not go anywhere in life since they are here illegally even though they grew up in the United States. Most of these speak English just as well if not better than they speak Spanish or other language. So why punish them their entire life for what their parents did?

The only decent thing the Bushies have done for this country, and the conservatives kill the bill. The good thing is the racist corrupt Repubs are burying themselves, the bad thing is they are taking us all with them.

Immigrants who come to live in the UK and then break the law and are subsequently sent to jail cost the taxpayer over £500 a week for their time of incarceration. They have the free choice to live here, they had the free choice to break the law. should we not have the free choice to jail them in a more economic location for us, perhaps where labour cost and prison accomodation is cheaper ?

Why would any republican senators vote for this bill? After weeks of debate, nothing promising changed in the bill from a conservative stand-point (amnesty). Does anyone know where I can get addresses for the following republican senators who voted for cloture? They are as follows:

Bennett (R-UT), Yea
Craig (R-ID), Yea
Graham (R-SC), Yea
Gregg (R-NH), Yea
Hagel (R-NE), Yea
Kyl (R-AZ), Yea
Lott (R-MS), Yea
Lugar (R-IN), Yea
Martinez (R-FL), Yea
McCain (R-AZ), Yea
Snowe (R-ME), Yea
Specter (R-PA), Yea

I really don't care how the dems voted because it won't change how I feel about their party. Unfortinately, for me, I live in California so writing my senators (Boxer and Feinstein-ultralibs) is not going to do much. I'm pretty sure almost every amendment proposed by the GOP was voted down. If this is not the case, let me know. Thank you.

As I see it, companies are hiring illegal immigrants, rather than citizens, because they can pay them less than the minimum wage, not provide health care, etc. In short, it's cheaper, and it's off the books.

If we shut down companies that do this, wouldn't at least half the problem go away? And if we don't shut those companies down, aren't we just allowing the poorest of our citizens the opportunity to lose their jobs because there is a cheaper labor source? It seems to me that going after the hiring companies, rather than the individuals, would be one effective way to proceed.

Well-reasoned, non-hateful comments on both sides would be appreciated.

How much does the US spend on everything to do with illegal immigration, i mean keeping them in jail when they do something wrong... tansporting them back... boarder controll... everything... my guess what about 10-20 billion, but i really dont know. A number answer would be nice... not an answer like "a lot" or "to much"

...the word "wet back" is very offensive?

i have heard it thrown out there as if it were a normal word. i just want to establish that that is an offensive word for those of you who do not know already

that word, i would say, is in equivalence with the "n" word for hispanic people

i know you might be using it to target just illegal immigrants, but the word has been used to define all hispanics as well therefore it has become a taboo period, no matter who it addresses

to make it simpler, its like if i decided that the "n" word would now mean "ignorant person" in my book. i can guarantee you that MANY people would be offended regardless of what it meant to me

and if you are trying to get someone else for insulting you, please gain some decency and realize what you are doing. all you are proving is that people can be very evil inside.

am i correct?

Illegal aliens shouldn't be granted jobs, health care, access to schools. Americans would be glad to take the jobs (higher prices ...Americans would be happy to pay higher prices to insure that only legal residents and legal aliens held American jobs). So with that in mind, why should we grant amnesty?
