The only decent thing the Bushies have done for this country, and the conservatives kill the bill. The good thing is the racist corrupt Repubs are burying themselves, the bad thing is they are taking us all with them.

To those of you who loved the bill being defeated, the only reason the Dems voted against it was for moral reasons, it didn't go far enough to protect the rights of immigrants against the persecution of idiots like Senator Jeff Sessions, who might as well be wearing a Nazi armband. Repubs voted against it because we all know that they want to reap the benefits of low cost labor while being seen to "protect" the rights of our racist society.

The so called immigration bill was nothing more that a way to let people who broke our laws get away with it. Do you think thatt if enough people broke the speed limit that we should change the law just to allow them to get out of any kind of punishment? Where will it end?
Laws have to be made before there is a problem as hugh as this is, there are good laws on the books, but they are not enforced. I will keep calling and emailing until they are enforced and the people that have trespassed in my country are gone, and the people that hire them are fined.

Perhaps you don't remember the Simpson-Mazzoli act which passed in 1986. The American people were promised that the bill would secure the border and punish businesses which hired illegal aliens as workers in exchange for a one time amnesty. Those promises weren't kept then and they have not been kept since. Congress continues to pass laws which are not enforced. The American people want a secure border BEFORE we do anything about the 20 million criminal invaders already here. We have to obey the laws. We expect others to do likewise - regardless of their skin color, ethnicity, gender or religion.

You sir are the idiot. Senator Sessions and the people like him are heroes, who bucked the so-called popular wisdom and opposed an immoral and illegal act to open our borders to anyone who wants to cross them with no restrictions. I do not oppose immigration, I believe that controlled immigration is necessary for our country's health. But I want to stop the continued bleeding across our borders of gangsters, criminals, terrorists and those who decide that they don't have to do things legally and they can flaunt the laws of our country. If I were to cross the border illegally into Mexico, would the Mexicans treat me to amnesty and forgive me? No, they actually enforce their strict immigration laws with stiff punishments, all the while telling us we should not enforce our laws. Shame on the Republicans and Democrats who tried to push this horrible law on us! They are traitors to our country and all should be defeated in the next election. I will not vote for anyone who supported this or any other such bill.

Thank God it failed! You should read ALLLLL the laws already on the books regarding illegal ALIENS and then you wouldn't say something so unintelligent!
Republicans and Democrats are the just two sides of the same coin.
Let's just arrest ILLEGAL trying to enter the USA without going through the legal channels--seize their assets--and enforce the Border Laws--100's of them we already have!

Thank God there are some sane people in the Senate. Thank God Bush got defeated!!!! And that stupido Tedddddy the drunk Kennedy.
Maybe Bush is drinking buddies with him now??

This poorly written legislation was killed by an almost equal number of Democrats and Republicans. It was truly bipartisan killed, so your comment to slam the Republicans is unwarranted and shows your liberal bias. Generally, the only people that use the "race" label are minorities that have no other argument to push their agenda. I suspect you are one of these people.

The issue with this bill was mainly the amnesty being bestowed upon some 12 million illegals here breaking our laws and refusing to assimilate into our culture. Poll after poll clearly showed that the general public did not want amnesty, yet the politicians continued on with their blind pursuit.

The lawful Americans are fed up with the poor performance of our congressional leadership and their refusal to represent the people that elected them. It took millions of people calling their respective elected representatives to convince them this was something that every poll showed, 82% of the legal population did not want amnesty. They are stupid if they cannot see this simple fact.

We are not racist my friend but we are defending our countries sovereignty.
Now we write an enforcement only bill that goes after employers of Illegal Immigrants and emigrants; if you hire a person unlawfully in the US you go to prison and your company is subject to liquidation.

You, sir, are a fool, a tool ,and a stool of nonsense. American voters (liberal, conservative, independent alike) should be outraged that this bill of incomprehensible "nincompoopery" was written in the first place. It was a testament to how out of control we have allowed our government to become. American citizen opposition to the bill is not mean-spirited, racist or even anti-immigrant - it is wise and the first step towards safeguarding our future. Secure the border, then talk about what to do with the 12-20 million or we will be dealing with 20-30. Just common sense.

It it more correct to say that it was the anti-illegal immigration crowd that killed the bill. All we want is that immigration be done legally not illegally.

Nobody is racist, and anyone who says that it is racism, they are only trying to create something that is not there.

Why? Because amnesty is wrong. Illegal aliens have no right to American jobs, homes, health care or access to schools. The people that hire them should be sent to prison. If illegal aliens want these rights then they will need to go through the legal process.
