They are conducting raids, but not enough in my opinion. They need to hire more agents and really go after employers who hire illegals. What do you think?

PHOENIX - Illegal immigrants are starting to leave Arizona months in advance of a new state law that will require employers to verify the employment eligibility of their workers.
The departures are drawing cheers from immigration hard-liners and alarm from business owners already seeing a drop in sales. At least several hundred immigrants have left since Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano signed the bill July 2, according to interviews with illegal immigrants, immigrant advocates, community leaders and real-estate agents. The number departing is expected to mushroom as Jan. 1, the date the law takes effect, draws closer. There are an estimated 500,000 illegal immigrants in Arizona.
Some immigrants are moving to other states, where they think they will have an easier time getting jobs. Others are returning to Mexico.
"I would say we are losing at least 100 people a day," said Elias Bermudez, founder of Immigrants Without Borders and host of a daily talk-radio program aimed at illegal immigrants.

SAN FRANCISCO - A federal judge in San Francisco blocked the Bush administration today from imposing a rule that would require employers to fire workers identified as illegal immigrants in government records or face possible prosecution.

U.S. District Judge Maxine Chesney granted a nationwide temporary restraining order sought by the AFL-CIO and affiliated unions to keep the government from sending letters to employers demanding that they clear up workers' citizenship status.

The order will be in effect until Oct. 1, when another federal judge will consider whether to grant an injunction that would block the rules until a trial on the unions' lawsuit against the government is held.

Chesney said there was a "serious question" about whether the Bush administration's planned crackdown on illegal workers was authorized by law. She also said the government would suffer little inconvenience from a delay, compared with the hardship to employees who might be improperly identified as illegal immigrants.

Officials had planned to send the first warning letters Tuesday and mail 140,000 letters to employers by Nov. 9.http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2007/08/31/BA3RRTFO5.DTL&tsp=1

What's the big deal? An illegal can just steal somebody else's identity and start over. Too bad the judge didn't volunteer her social security number to help these people.I'm sure she considers identity theft to be a victimless crime.

I understand there is an issue at hand. No disagreement.

What I want to know is: Do you see it as the be-all-end-all deciding factor in electing a president, and, how much does this issue occupy your thoughts on a daily basis? And, if they occupy a lot of your thoughts- why is that?

Me: It is not the only issue I am worried about. I have a handful of issues that I will vote on. This issue ONLY occupies my mind while I am on this site.

"A man and his family of 4 enter the U.S. 15 years ago from an overseas country on a temporary visa. However, he overstays his visa which expired many years ago. Could he now gain a green card, which leads to citizenship because he entered the country legally, or does he have to return to his country of origin and re-apply for himself and his family? If he can gain citizenship, explain the legal steps. If he cannot, state why." (10 points)

The attorneys who successfully challenged Hazleton's illegal immigration ordinance in federal court want the city to pay their legal fees and costs totaling close to $2.4 million.

A 28-page petition filed in federal court Friday blames the city for driving up the fees for the attorneys pursuing the case, who represented several of Hazleton's Hispanic residents, landlords and community groups.

Since passing the first ordinance of its kind in July 2006, the city passed at least three additional versions of the ordinance in an attempt to improve its chances of winning the lawsuit. The often unexpected changes made the case more labor intensive and expensive, the plaintiffs argue.

"Hazleton has used this Court as its laboratory," the fee petition reads. "Defendant's experimentation over the past year comes at a price."

U.S. District Judge James M. Munley declared the Illegal Immigration Relief Act unconstitutional in a 206-page opinion released July 26, ruling it violated due process rights and infringed on the federal government's sole authority to regulate immigration. In federal civil rights cases, prevailing plaintiffs can ask the judge to force the defendant to pay for their legal fees.

Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta, whose city operates on a tightly constrained $7.9 million budget, called the $2.4 million fee total "absurd," adding the city plans to challenge the amount plaintiffs requested.

"It illustrates the circus the ACLU brought to the case," said Barletta. "They had over 20 attorneys sitting in the courtroom, with plenty of them doing nothing but running up the bill. Their goal was to bankrupt the city of Hazleton."

Lead co-counsel for the plaintiffs Witold "Vic" Walczak, of the ACLU, defended the fees as reasonable, saying they were reduced by $500,000 from what could have been requested.

"We didn't bill for all the lawyers in the courtroom," he said.

Munley has the discretion to award a higher or lower fee total if he wishes. The city has appealed Munley's ruling and won't have to pay any fees until the case is resolved.

In light of the fact that Hazletons problem is every Americans problem and was largely created by the point blank refusal of the Federal government to enforce standing laws. The Bush administration should this bill, out of their own pockets.
GW could stop this.

I can understand America - it was built on (legal) immigration and multiculturalism (from peoples of Europe first, but still).

But why does Europe, a land which has/had many unique indigenous cultures, want to go out and pollute its society with every kind of Allah worshipper known to man?

I travel a lot and live mostly around hispanics. I now live and work around illegals. In El Paso, being illegal is a way of life for many. When I go throughout this country, I noticed a lot of illegals working in Southern States. I also noticed that white females marry them quite often. Even if it does not result in marriage, there is a very high percentage of relationships with illegal males and white females. I am somewhat confused because quite a number of white females are opposedto illegal immigration. If you are benefiting from it, why do you oppose? I am not hispanic or white, so it really does not matter to me. However, why complain about illegals and marry them at an alarming rate? Anyone who is down South or in the Midwest knows and sees what I am talking about. Isn't it hypocritical to want them as lovers but want others to leave the country? I know this does not represent every white woman, but it is an issue worth noting.

why does la raza, a lobbyist group with TONS of cash, spend it's money on getting U.S. politicians to give illegals all sorts of benefits...when, with so much money, they could go back to their country of origin and help it become a better country? this is especially hard to understand when you consider that this is a group of people who love their country and their heritage...why abandon it and instead spend resources on trying to get another country's support? think of all the help la raza could do if it helped set up businesses in mexico/central america...or if they used the money to fund the campaign of a president who truly wants to help the country

http://www.aila.org/content/default.aspx?docid=12396 I was doing some researching and this popped up...so all the idiots who claim we need to stop legal immigration what do you think of these numbers...

"To compensate for the loss of revenue caused by a moratorium would require increasing Social Security taxes on Americans by $506 billion in present value over 50 years and $611 billion over 75 years. Such a tax increase would cost an American earning $60,000 in 2004 more than $1,860 in higher payroll taxes over the next 10 years.

A 33 percent increase in legal
immigration would increase revenues to Social Security by a present value of $169 billion over 50 years and $216 billion over 75 years. A 20 percent legal immigration increase would add $101 billion in present value to the trust fund over 50 years and $128 billion over a 75-year period.

You can go to page 7 for a pretty good chart and the sources.

OK let's say Y/A is a virtual Country, ok? so if we all follow simple rules and obey the laws , (unlike the illegals , don't do)
and many here called them law brakers.so everytime you log in Y/A you find out you are 11 or so many points down , and receive a "violation notice " E-mail. then eventualy you get you account suspended, well isn't that the same thing as like you say illegals don't respect laws , so what are you or me doing ? exactly the same thing , when they suspend your account is like : " you had been deported, out of the Y/A virtual country and then you sneak back with another user name and password" and sometimes you "clone someones user name ?
isn't that dissobeying the laws , so why are some of us , so scandalized , of what undocumented people are doing, (NOT MEXICANS,UNDOCUMENTED) your opinion?
