It is more or less 2 months from the time of setting an appointment until the passport with visa is delivered.

For a basic tourist visa, no time. All anyone needs to do is get on a plane here, and get off. The maxium allowed on a tourist visa is 3 months. If someone plans to stay longer than that, then a different visa is required, cause then it isnt tourism.
Hypothetical situation...
If you have a sweetie, or someone you are interested in, thinking of coming here for a "get to know you visit", then my advice is....have them prearrange a "vacation" somewhere in the US...once they are here, they can stay for up to 3 months. But if they get off that plane, and tell customs they are here to meet a posible romantic partner, customs WILL send em back. Then you will have to apply to a consulate.
If you have any questions, please email me, as I kind of know people who have done something simular.
And once they are denied entry into the US, gettng any kind of visa afterward is going to be a nightmare.

It all depends on when you get the appointment for an interview so it will depend on the particular consulate you go to, but yeah between 1 and 2 months sounds right.
