Ok. Looking for my next move. Hoping to emigrate but where too? I am considering Canada, Australia or New Zealand. Which would you suggest is best in terms of Cost of living, Cost of Housing, Salaries (I'm a secondary Physics teacher) and ease of moving there. I have researched all countries and am struggling to decide so give me a hand. Oh I will be travelling with my girlfriend (soon to be married) and have 2 cats. Just incase this throws a spanner in the works.

Cheers in advance for the advice.

people are always talking about all the 'illegals' in their neighborhoods, but how do you know which immigrants are actually illegal? i doubt that they go around with t-shirts on that say, 'i'm an illegal immigrant', and i know there's no illegal immigrant registry that they sign up for when they get here. is the preferred method just to focus your hatred for illegal immigrants at people who you assume are illegal for whatever reason, or do you go up to them and ask them, first?

people come up with all of these statistics on illegal immigration- for example, i saw someone who said something like, 'i was waiting in line to see a doctor, and there was like 20 mexicans in front of me, and they say about half are illegal...' who's 'they', and where are these numbers coming from?

is the preferred method just to focus your hatred for illegal immigrants at people who you assume are illegal for whatever reason, or do you go up to them and ask them if they're illegal, first?

You hate it, I hate it, the illegals hate it.I'm talking decent illegals who just want better for their families here on this question. They don't want to leave their homes either. But we have major issues which our government has put into motion that they were warned about by economists would turn into a disaster.Without thinking of the consequences AGAIN.We entered into Trade Agreements that benefit the wealthy and large corporations. This has created a mass migration of Mexico's poorest.Thereby causing substantial strain on OUR systems and working class. To stop this once and for all with a permanant fix instead of the band aids we've previously applied such as the amnesty of '86 we need to address the real issues of WHY this has happened.Do you agree with this as a valid argument and path to end illegal immigration?

Immigration has obviously become absorbed into the polarized political battle between the Left and Right.

Politics aside...

-What are the benefits of immigration?

-What problems does immigration pose for the United States?

-What kinds of lives do illegal immigrants live in this country?

August 31, 2007 - Immigrant rights groups are holding a 24-hour prayer vigil to protest the arrests of 58 Mexican nationals.
A crowd gathered outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) office Thursday night in Waukegan. Some at the vigil are questioning why people who have already been through the legal system were targeted.

ICE agents arrested 58 Mexican nationals with alleged ties to violent street gangs in the northern and northwest suburbs this week in the largest local dragnet targeting foreign-born street gang members.

According to a release from ICE, these are the latest arrests under an ongoing national initiative called "Operation Community Shield," in which ICE partners with other federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to address the threat of transnational street gangs.

The multi-agency operation targeted foreign national gang members and gang associates in the northern and northwest suburbs, including Waukegan, Mundelein and Round Lake, the release said. All of those arrested this week are Mexican men targeted for their affiliations with violent street gangs such as the Latin Kings, Sureño-13s and Latin Lovers, among others.

Of the 58 arrested, 37 are illegal aliens and 21 are U.S. permanent residents whose previous criminal convictions render them eligible for deportation. ICE agents in Chicago have made more than 275 arrests since the Operation Community Shield was established in February 2005.

The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Fugitive Task Force, Lake County Sheriff's Department, and the Waukegan and Mundelein Police Departments assisted ICE in the enforcement effort, which began Sunday night and concluded Wednesday.

Among those arrested was Edgar Rodriguez-Tovar, a 23-year-old Sureño-13 member, apprehended Aug. 26 in Round Lake, the release said. He is an illegal alien from Mexico with prior convictions for aggravated discharge of a firearm and aggravated battery, the release said. He remains in ICE custody pending deportation to Mexico.

Also arrested was Mario Vargas-Hernandez at his Waukegan residence, the release said. The 34-year-old is a member of the Latin Kings with gang tattoos confirming his membership. He is illegal alien with a burglary conviction and numerous arrests for unlawfully using a weapon, possessing a firearm, battery and aggravated assault, the release said. He remains in ICE custody pending removal to Mexico.

Some of the crimes associated with the gang members arrested during this local operation include aggravated battery, possessing a controlled substance, armed violence, possessing a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, drunken driving, mob action and burglary.

Six of those arrested had active warrants for their arrest and will be turned over to local authorities to face criminal charges before being transferred back to ICE for deportation. Three are being presented to the U.S. Attorney's Office for federal prosecution for re-entering the United States after having been deported, a felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison.

If you se the news most of the people steeling and killing are black, whites objectionable sex related things, asians behave in a strange way like the dude in VA Tech and arabic or muslims do terror attacks. What do those immigrants do? Just break the law crossing the border to come to this "great" country. See all races have something bad and call latinos criminals illegals thay do little compared to others

What does what a politician promises to get into office have to do with what they do after they get elected?
"I promise to build a fence so those Mexicans can't ruin your life".
"Well, I tried but the Supreme Court stopped the funding". Darn those old idiots.
No law enacted is going to go around the Mexican American peace agreement. Dream on.
Some people say I don't understand the law or the treaty. I say they don't understand the law or the preace agreement. TAKE A VERY CLOSE LOOK AT REALITY. How does the reality compare with your version of the Treaty of Hildago-Guadalupe?

or is it more like "I'm going to find a job!" and give me and my family a better life. I really don't think they come here to purposely annoy us and I think they would do it the legal way if there was a legal way for them to do it. Do we need to defend ourselves from tomato pickers, cleaning ladies, nannies, meat packers, construction workers and waiters? Don't we have bigger fish to fry?

Hundreds of U.S. soldiers are immigrants that go to war for you, they are looking for their citizenship and many of them don't come back. Most of them are used as bait, and go to the front lines. Then Why do so many people hate them, because they are black, Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican?
They are defending you and they come from other parts of the world to fight your wars...
I don't get it.

Some of her supporters describe her this way. But Arellano's credentials as a "role model," to say the least, fall short.

Indeed, even some "immigrant rights activists" find the comparison embarrassing. A check of the Web sites of the National Council of La Raza and the Mexican-American Legal Defense and Educational Fund finds no statement one way or the other concerning Arellano.

Rosa Parks, a black woman, was born in 1913 in Tuskegee, Alabama — that is, Tuskegee, Alabama, United States of America. She thus entered life as an American citizen, but was denied the rights and protections afforded by the U.S. Constitution.

Arellano sneaked into the country, not once but twice, and defied a deportation order by receiving "sanctuary" for over a year in a Chicago church.
Arellano gave birth on American soil to a son, now 8. But she does not speak of his father.

She condemns the U.S. government for "breaking up" her family because Saul (her son) remains in the U.S. while she reportedly lives with friends in Tijuana, Mexico. But Arellano chose to leave Saul behind, claiming that his attention deficit hyperactivity disorder requires better medical care than provided in Mexico.

Arellano's justification for illegally crossing the border? "I came to the United States to work. I came because of what NAFTA and other U.S. economic policies have done to my country, in which I could no longer find work that paid a living wage."

After her deportation to Mexico, she said: "The United States is the one who broke the law first. By letting people cross over (the border) without documents. By letting people pay taxes."

That's a new one.

As for the assertion that America "broke the law first," Arellano makes an interesting claim: The failure of America to effectively police its borders constitutes a criminal act that morally and legally justifies illegal entry into America.

Arellano's insulting demands simply harden hearts. Instead of displaying even a hint of gratitude, she lectures American citizens that her son has the same rights as President Bush. Who said he didn't?The Mexican Senate greeted Arellano like a conquering hero. It immediately passed a measure demanding that the president of Mexico send a diplomatic note to President Bush protesting the deportation. It also promised to provide a scholarship for Arel-lano's son. (To be used where?)
