No way. In the first place, the US Army recruits only US citizens and permanent legal residents (green card holders).

At one time foreign nationals could join the US Army. I knew several who became citizens after service in Vietnam. Unfortunately, 10 USC 2353 now provides that only US citizens, US nationals and lawfully admitted permanent residents may serve.

Not necessarilly... the American military actually has some soldiers that are citizens of other nations (mainly from South America) but they are not automatically given citizenship.

A non-citizen in the military can immediately petition for citizenship... It is easier for a soldier to gain US citizenship than a regular alien but it is not a guarantee.

(Its amazing that so many people in here talk with so much authority of something that they obviously don't know the answer to this question)

You cannot join the army unless you are a citizen, you cannot vote for a president unless you are too, as for fighting for the country an illegal could be a terrorist, as desperate as they are for more men in iraq, they arent stupid, they can still pose the draft.

When they catch
an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and
some ammo and ship him to Iraq. Tell him if he wants to come to America
then he must serve a tour in the military. Give him a soldier's pay while
he's there and tax him on it. After his tour, he will be allowed to become
a citizen since he defended this country. He will also be registered to be
taxed and be a legal patriot. This option will probably deter illegal
immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens
trying to make a better life for themselves. If they refuse to serve, ship
them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo. Problem solved. If
you think this is a good solution to both the problems, forward it to your friends.
I just did.

Illegals can't join the army. They are a security risk. Lately, there has been quite a stink raised because illegals have been caught working on military bases. http://www.renewamerica.us/columns/kouri/051024

That would be the ONLY way I would support this so called "Path to Citizenship" Disguised as Amnesty Bill. Serve a minimum 5 years in the military. But be tried for treason if you're discharged dishonorably.

You cannot join the Army (or the US Military) if you're an illegal alien.
