its been more than 14 months and i haven't received my US passport and i will be traveling to canada this weekend. due to my color i have been sent to the custom 50 percent of the time i have returned to the US border in my green card dayz. now i am a citizen but have not yet received my passport and have a plan with friends this weekend to canada. should i risk it and go along? my birth certificate will show my place of birth as pakistan and only my university / drivers id will show my residence in USA. can i still go or will it be too much of a hassle to go and come back....i really really don't wanna miss this trip.

No! You have to have a passport. Even if you were able to get into Canada, you would not be allowed back into the US. Don't risk it. I'm sorry about your weekend, but it's just not worth it.

You can go to the passport site and print a receipt that your papers have been received and that your passport is in the works. I've been in the same situation with greencard in hand and they almost didn't let me back in a couple of times. I'm now a citizen to and I got my passport a week before my trip. If I were you I wouldn't risk it though...Go to Canada some other time.

Here is perhaps hope. This presumes you have proof of citizenship. That with a drivers license might be enough. The Government has gotten so backed up with requests, they were as recently allowing reentry by show the proof above and proof that you have applied for a Passport. Check with INS as soon as possible.

Looks like your planned trip will have to be cancelled. I would not risk going out of the US of A without a passport proving that you are a citizen. You might be able to get out, buy you will not be allowed in. Sorry.

Don't do it. As someone who's foreign born, you have no proof of citizenship. The driver's license isn't good enough for that. You should be able to go to your local airport and get a rushed passport for an extra charge, but it might already been too late for that.
