What is the process of moving to Canada, my fiance and I are thinking about it. We are both educated, skilled workers with degrees, we are just fed up with America. If you have any experience with the process of relocating to Canada please give me some details. Thanks!

Go to the immigration/citizenship homepage at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp and it will give more info than I can. Basically you can apply as a "permanent resident" in one of a few categories which is based upon a point system given for desirable qualities - university degrees etc. If you have over $150K to invest in Canada (various restrictions and the amount may be higher now) you can apply in the "investor status" category. If Canada has a shortage in the type of work you are trained in you can apply in the "skilled worker" category. Anyway, it's all complicated and will take 12 to 18 months so I would suggest to contact a Canadian immigration lawyer. The extra money for this is well worth it. The United Nations has ranked Canada the #1 country in the world to live for 7 of the past 8 years so welcome to the best country in the world!

Sure, we take refugees from under-developped countries all the time. Welcome!

Start by visiting the Canada Immigration website and fill out the appropriate forms. Apply for a SIN number (Social Insurance Number) as soon as possible. You will need this to get a job or apply for government assistance.

I know you'll like it in Canada. Do you have any job prospects here, or know what part you would like to live in? Anyway, visit the following site for immigration information.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

If you have been offered a job already, likely, your employer will sponsor your work permit, but there is also information here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/index.asp

You should also speak to an immigration lawyer dealing with Canadian immigration as well as contact the nearest Canadian Consulate office to you.

Hope that helps!

You are very welcome over here in Canada by the way. Which province are you looking? We have lower crime rate and stricter gun laws and less racism.
