As I see it, companies are hiring illegal immigrants, rather than citizens, because they can pay them less than the minimum wage, not provide health care, etc. In short, it's cheaper, and it's off the books.

If we shut down companies that do this, wouldn't at least half the problem go away? And if we don't shut those companies down, aren't we just allowing the poorest of our citizens the opportunity to lose their jobs because there is a cheaper labor source? It seems to me that going after the hiring companies, rather than the individuals, would be one effective way to proceed.

Well-reasoned, non-hateful comments on both sides would be appreciated.

You are absolutely right, it would end the problem. But big companies have the money and power to pay people off in high places. We seem to have a shortage of people in high places with integrity.

No. The minimum wage is not much. Major companies pay minimum wages - do you know any that don't? They hire more workers to insure that everyone stays on part-time basis and are therefore inelligible for overtime and benefits. This is not illegal - it's been done to American teenagers for years. The average Mexican worker in Mexico earns 1/10th of what the average American worker earns. Working here will always be attractive to them. Besides enforcing minimum wage laws are as hard as enforcing documented worker laws.
Maybe as part of North American Trade Agreements we should insure fair labor practices by instituting a minimum wage from Canada to Mexico. I honestly think Mexicans would prefer living in Mexico if they had the promise of economic opportunity there. It is a beautiful, although sadly and cancerously corrupt nation.

I agree completely. I would like to get a pay raise after more than half of my paycheck is going to taxes. Then my tax money is paying for illegals to get food stamps and government benefits. 5.15 an hour is ridiculous with gas is about 3 bucks a gallon. The way things are going now, the rich are getting richer and the poor are getting poorer. Any company that hires illegals should be fined big time. No one should hire illegals. The fact remains...they are illegal!! If you hire them, you are breaking the law.

Have I seen a Mexican beg???
Hell yeah, every day.
they are all over my town and lots of them are unemployed and looking for something for nothing.
Mexicans hit me up for my hard earned cash just about every day.
If they want to earn something, they should focus on earning a green card so they can earn an HONEST living.

properly, it relies upon what area of the financial equipment you're speaking approximately. super areas of enterprise and production be counted on unlawful immigrants to do their paintings. they could pay them little or no, cope with them poorly (by way of fact the prospect of having sent homestead retains them under administration) and paintings them long hours by way of fact they could't ***** to all and sundry. interior the top, this retains earnings margins up (good for super enterprise and stockholders) and retains fees down (good for individuals who choose to purchase issues inexpensively). in case you ask your self who unlawful immigration reward, evaluate that maximum places (like Texas) do not hit employers of such immigrants any fines in besides. in reality, it rather is 'good for the financial equipment' an analogous way that outsourcing is 'good for the financial equipment'. It enriches the individuals who own enormous companies, and that they in turn boost the individuals who make the regulations. as a result the main suitable thank you to surrender unlawful immigration and it rather is depredation of the financial equipment is to not attempt and shop immigrants out (it does not paintings at any value) yet to allow them in, yet to lead them to electorate, taxpayers, get them returning funds to the financial equipment, and lead them to in a position to unionize, as a result elevating their wages (and in turn, everybody elses, besides as making the jobs that they at present take palatable for greater individuals who frankly does not/could not stay off the wages that maximum unlawful immigrants make). yet that could desire to up fees and decrease earnings margins, and we gained't have that!

I think enforcing deportation would stop a lot of illegal immigration.
