Its nine oclock on a saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
Theres an old man sitting next to me
Makin love to his tonic and gin

He says, son, can you play me a memory?
Im not really sure how it goes
But its sad and its sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger mans clothes

La la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Chorus:
Sing us a song, youre the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, were all in the mood for a melody
And youve got us feelin alright

Now john at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And hes quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But theres someplace that hed rather be
He says, bill, I believe this is killing me.
As the smile ran away from his face
Well Im sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place

Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Now paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And hes talkin with davy whos still in the navy
And probably will be for life

And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, theyre sharing a drink they call loneliness
But its better than drinkin alone

Chorus

Its a pretty good crowd for a saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
cause he knows that its me theyve been comin to see
To forget about life for a while
And the piano, it sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say, man, what are you doin here?

Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Chorus

Thanks a lot.

I keep hearing people say - The governments working on it don't worry , the governments on the job . For example - Education - The governments on the job working to fix it .
War - The governments on the job to prevent it .
Disease - The governments working on new cures .
Terrorism - The governments on the job working to stop it .

Well I might be synicial but I haven't seen not one bit of proof ANYWHERE that states the government is working on ANYTHING ! Sure there working on getting nonsense laws passed like condeming an ad in a magazine but the government working on real issues - Come on now .

Anyone agree ?

The USA needs to continue it's wars and occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan to keep the Militant Islamic Fanatics in check,a Military Invasion of Iran must be next.
To make sure a 9/11 attack never happens in the USA again these wars must continue no matter what the cost. The Army/Marines have met their recruitment quota by allowing in substandard recruits, soon this will not be enough and military conscription(Draft) must return,to be fair women must also be conscripted.
Many people will disagree with this, they do not know that for america to be safe and keep it's people free these wars must continue, even if it Bankrupts the US economy or if these wars last for over 30 years, does anyone else agree?

I'm 14, and I feel like I should be more aware of what is going on in the country that I live in. From what I know, I think Bush is arrogant, incompetent, and an anti-intellectual. But, I would like to know more about some of his actions, such as not approving health care for kids, turning down a bill to give financial aid to students who were convicted of a misdemeanor involving drugs, etc. Thank you!

I remember they had a nationwide telephone poll and did on tv. At the end, it was a choice between Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, and Ronald Reagan.
http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/greatestamerican/greatestamerican.html

Why did Reagan win?

Here's why I think he won. As a left-wing liberal I have high admiration for Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr Both represented the left-wing of their generation.

So I was split between Lincoln and MLK Jr.

Right-wingers on the other hand (especially southern neo-confederates who HATE Lincoln) had only one choice: Reagan.

So while the left-wing vote was split in two, the right-wing vote had only one real choice.

I saw a pic in ny post and there were like six navy seals and all had really huge beards. I always thought that us military was forbidden from beards and in some cases moustaches as well. Are navy seals an exeption?

Where is the "victory" in that? I mean, its like the 300 Spartans versus the mightiest military ever galvanized by man. AK-47s versus F-22 Raptors.

It definately is NOT a shortcoming of US soldiers, they accomplish EVERY mission. It IS a shortcoming of the plans approved by the "Commander and Chief". Is it not?

Cons seem to believe that government can't do anything right.

But apparently our government's foreign policy is always right?

I don't think so.

Kicking fascist behind during WWII and the Marshal Plan = Good.

Helping to overthrow elected leaders in Iran and latin america and replacing them with right-wing dictators = Bad.

Here's the deal. Me and my husband have been married for almost a year and we are both in the army. A few weeks after we were married we put in our Married Army Couples Packet and were told it should be in the system in a month. Now, almost a year later we both come down on orders (me going back to Korea for my second tour, my husband going to Fort Reily). I have called our branch manager and she has told me that it didnt show us as being married in the system. She also said that we were both on Priority Assignments and it would be hard to change unless I reenlist. (Which I do not want to do). My question is, Is there anyone out there that has had this problem also or anyone know what me and my husband can do to fix this issue. Please, only serious answers. Im really worried. Thanks

You say we fought against communism and as you know ( Young people know this too) we lost over 58,500 dead troops. So how come my brand new Chevy Equinox vehicle was made in China? ( That is the engine for my vehicle is made in Communist China ) China helped kill those 58,500 men by supporting North Vietnam. So why did General Motors go to China and give those people our jobs? Why is wal-mart full of goods from China? I bet all you veterans buy goods from China? Right? Same with Vietnam. The clothes on my back are from Vietnam. (Thanks Wal-Mart ) Guess what I know ?? In 10 years all the Auto Plants will be in China. All the cars you will drive will be made in China so why did you old Veterans fight the so called communist? You know as well as I do the Communist countries won when it came to the Vietnam war.

I want everyone to know about the situation in Iraq in all its REALITY, tribes, different powers in Iraq right now, the US's goal for Iraq, the Iranian, Saudi, and Syrian interests in Iraq currently, Al Qaeda's goals for Iraq, the Sunni vs. Shiite vs. Kurd conflict past and present, the major mistruths (maybe, maybe not direct lies) that have been stated by Bush administration to get us into Iraq, why each country is in Iraq right now, the cost of the US leaving Iraq (what would happen to the Iraqi people, what would happen to US interests in the region), etc.

There is so much people should learn about this. I believe that each country's population that has troops in Iraq should be tought this as being mandatory and the people, WE THE PEOPLE ONLY AFTER LEARNING ALL OF THIS, should vote on whether to stay in Iraq or whether not to.

Let different people buy in at different rates depending on what they need. You could offer different levels of service for:

social security
medicare
medicaid
even universal healthcare

people could choose how much they wanted of all of these and would be entitled to a level of service corresponding with their contribution.

"From each according to his wants, to each according to his contributions"...

The Federal Government has asked a California court to dismiss a lawsuit brought by the ACLU in behalf of five men who claim they were flown to another country where they were tortured and interrogated. Acting Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Bucholz said that CIA Intelligence information would be jeopardized if the case proceeded.

Although the President claimed that the U.S. does not torture prisoners, this Detention and Interrogation Program, called the Rendition Program has gone on for years. Among other charges, it is stated that the government "falsified flight plans to avoid public scrutiny."

The five men claiming to have been tortured in a Secret Prison located in another country claim that they are not terrorists and pose no danger for the United States.
