I'm 14, and I feel like I should be more aware of what is going on in the country that I live in. From what I know, I think Bush is arrogant, incompetent, and an anti-intellectual. But, I would like to know more about some of his actions, such as not approving health care for kids, turning down a bill to give financial aid to students who were convicted of a misdemeanor involving drugs, etc. Thank you!

Lynette, I have read up on the subject and many of the things he has done, and that is how I formed my opinions. My mother and stepfather both support Bush, as does most of my family, and I have formed my own opinion based on what I believe is ethical.

Some relevant actions.
Ordering White House staff members to ignore Congressional subpoenas (violation of 2 USC 192) and to refuse to turn over documents to Congress as required by federal law (18 USC 1001).
Ordering violations of the Geneva Convention, which is also a violation of the federal war crimes statute (18 USC 2441), as confirmed by the Supreme Court.
Violating the 4th Amendment and federal law (50 USC 7201) with his warrantless wiretapping program, also a violation of 18 USC 2411, as confirmed by federal courts.
Betrayal of his oath of office to see that the laws of the US were faithfully executed, and to uphold and defend the Constitution -- by the above illegal actions among others.
And his belief that he is entitled to break the laws of the US at will -- because according to him the executive branch is not answerable to or subject to review by any other branch.

You feel so badly of the President because you watch too much CNN and liberal media. Turn the TV to Fox News or listen to Rush Limbaugh every once in a while and you might think differently because you will get the other side of the story. The reason he vetoed the S-CHIP bill was it would cover health insurance for people who were making enough money to not need it. The president is in favor of expanding that program, just not to the upper middle class. I never heard of the other bill you mentioned, it must not have been as big of a story, or I just was paying attention to more important things. A lot of people might not agree, but President Bush is a very intelligent person, he's just not the best public speaker.

Well... your question certainly shows that you get all your information from *very* liberal sources.. for example.. the SCHIP.. The President was for a 5 BILLION dollar *Increase* in the funding for SCHIP... Congress went *FAR* beyond that increasing coverage to "children" up to 25 years old and income coverage to $80,000.. and because of the way the bill was written.. coverage to Illegals... And Congress was going to pay for all this with *HUGE* tax increases on Cigarettes... which would put a burden on the poor (because they are the heaviest users) that the Democrats whine so much about wanting to help. So, to me, it was good that he Vetoed the bill.... All Congress has to do is pass a reasonable bill and the President will sign it.... But they would rather score political points (with people like you that are misinformed) that do anything of real value.

If you want to form your own opinion then you should read up on the actions causing you the concern. For example try reading the health care legislation in full (even the attachments) and then read up on his reasons for denying it. If you still feel the same way after thoroughly researching each topic then you will at least understand why you believe what you do, and be able to explain your position to others.
Update:
Then why are you asking to be informed?

Your major assumptions are very biased, but not unexpected as you probably heard it from other uninformed mtv informed individuals. pretty much what you must do is read a multitude of newspapers from different US cities as well as from other countries around the world.
What sore spot? I only gave you an answer, but based on your second edit, I am going to say that the way you are thinking is based on rebelling against your authority figures. Very mature. But once again you must be getting your news from very biased sources. Did you know that Hillary Clinton had put an earmark into the health care bill to create a woodstock museum to commemorate a hippie concert?

Check out the front page of the Washington Post every day (www.washingtonpost.com). They generally report on White House matters fairly straightforwardly.

Bush is like most conservatives only concerned with himself. He doesn't care about minorities or the enviroment or that the war in Iraq is pointless or about poor children
